C-Products Mag Observations

I recently purchsed a C-Products SS lanced magazine from Dave's Surplus, and I observed a few things both before and after dissassembly.
Before you crucify me upside down, these are just observations, not criticisims. Use whatever you want. I just prefer not to believe the hype until I take a look for myself.

First - the C-Products(proprietary Magpul) follower is quite a bit different from the original Gen 1 Magpul follower - narrower, and shorter, and missing a few of the features that seem to be important to its excellent reputation for reliable feeding.

Secondly, the C-Products mag body was internally about 1/16" (~.060") wider than the Armalite magazine I compared it to, and consider to be an excellent magazine.

This is the C-Products(proprietary Magpul) follower in the C-products body. Notice the large spaces between the follower and body. I found this led to a lot of rocking of the follower, so much so that if the follower rocked, they (the rounds) were barely held in by the lips of the mag.

(Sorry for the crappy pic)

Thirdly, the lances needed to be slightly modified to allow for seating of the mag with five rounds on a closed bolt.
Also, the stainless steel is magnetic, either through working or because of the grade of stainless. I do not know which one. This is probably not an issue for anyone, but just something I noticed.

And lastly, I believe the Magpul followers work so well becuse they are a close fit to the mag body, not permitting tilting or diving of the follower. But this is dependent on a very well made mag body.
But if the mag bodies are made with a very loose tolerance, accomidated for with a very sloppy follower, it could lead to unreliable round feeding situations.
Just my initial thoughts, and for the price, and the current run of the C-Product magazines, I am going to stick with Armalite mags with Magpul gen 1 or 2 followers. Wolverine's prices on mags are comparable to the C-Products mags, even if you add the cost of the Magpul follower.

Please don't crucify me.

Have you actually ran ammo through them and found feeding issues, or are you formulating an opinion and 'write up' on what it 'looks like'?:wtf:

Oh geez, here we go.
I guess it depends on how you define "works". Yes, the mag feeds most of the time, but because the follower is so loose in the body, it can tilt forward and side to side, and this caused random last rounds to jam into the upper reciever below the barrel extension feed ramps and somtimes it would feed and sometimes not.
Gun is a bushmaster, no feedramp extensions into the upper reciever ala M4 style.
Armalite and NHMTG mags with Magpul Gen 1 followers feed flawlessly, 100% of the time, for ME.

I would define 'works' as something doing what it is designed to do. In this case, reliably feed ammunition into the AR.
My followers have very little slop, and can not be tilted, front to back or side to side ?!?!:)runaway: )
I'm leaving the proprietary followers alone with the magazines they came with, as I have no reason to change them.
I would say if they are giving you grief, you should look to exchange them.

Geesh guys, lighten up. The guy is making an observation and if you note, he also mentioned that the rivet is too high making it difficult to have 5 rounds loaded and position on a closed bolt. I returned by 12 mags I just purchased for this reason and went with a dozen armalite mags....since they are the same price. Nice write up...thanks..

Beltfed - the gray followers were the ones that came with the C-Products mags, and they are the loose ones. The aftermarket MagPul Gen 1 actually was a "better" fit and helped with the nose diving and side to side movement.
Like I said, this is just an observation of the mag I bought, not an inditement of all C-Products mags.
Maybe the lanced mags we are getting are different than the US ones? Perhaps there is some differences in different manufacturing runs?
Who knows.

I appologize if I seamed to come off on this thread, I just really liked that WTF icon. I agree, your write up was actually well done, no offence.

I've looked at all of the C-Products mags I have (all 6 of them:rolleyes: ) and not one displays any abnormality in magazine to follower clearances. I've only put about 200 rounds down range with them, but so far they have not caused a stoppage. The lances are high on mine as well, but with a bit of tweeking before I used them, they now seat just fine on a closed bolt with 5 rounds.
If the proprietary followers are nose diving on you , I'd definately send it back. If it is twisting in the mag body on you, something is beyond wrong!

I just got off the phone with C-Products to see what "generation" of mag Dave's Surplus bought, and they told me that they have no record of them buying mags from them... And we never sold them any....

With that being said, I cannot answer any of your questions, only that if there is ever a problem with an item that we represent, and the goods were acquired through our supply chain, we will back those items 100%...
