C1A1 IR scope

Most of the problem with the units was in the image tube. The tube had a short life and the contacts were also prone to corrosion. Look at the "fingers" on rear of the image tube and see if any are corroded. A pencil eraser is a good tool for cleaning the contacts if you don't have a contact burnishing tool.

No corrosion. The inside, and out, are like new. Various sets of new batteries were tried, both directions, and still nothing, including reticle light. Nothing would come on, no noise, nada.

The IR light works properly with the large 6 volt battery, but the scope itself, simply doesn't turn on.

Does the scope rely on or is assisted by the IR light, 6 volt battery to operate?
In other words, does the light HAVE to be in place on top and powered up, in order for the tube to turn on?

just picked up recently, not sure. has a serial # of 0304
My manual has a sticker on the front to lead me to believe the serial number range for Canadian service was; 604001 - 604228. Mine is in the middle with a 6041XX number. So if the CF had all the numbers, we had 228 units in supply.

The batteries in the emitter are crucial to the operation of the scope from what I can remember. Must refresh the old gray matter but should be able to get you up and running. They do have a very limited range and any external light sources will cause you problems when they are up and running. It has been a long time but should be able to help.
Drop me a pm...
These things are OLD technology but interesting...........
Do you have the manual ? I sold my original but have a copy somewhere.

Sorry for the confusion on the mention of serial number: I was commenting on the serial number of the C1A1...8L was from a lot that survived the purge.
