Seems AK jam far more often that the AR type rifle! See below.

Description:

After a frustratingly long three-year wait, the fledging Afghan National Army finally has a new weapon in its arsenal: the Canadian C7 rifle. Some 42 boxes of surplus weapons arrived at the ANA base just up the road from Kandahar Airfield last week, Brig.-Gen. Gul Aqa said Wednesday in an interview with The Canadian Press. And training is already underway. Aimed at replacing the Afghan army's old Soviet-era AK-47s in order to bring the force's fire power capabilities in line with that of NATO countries, the Canadian rifles are a welcome addition, Aqa said. "They're very modern and new weapons and the C7 is a real necessity for the ANA," he said through a translator. He said the AK-47s often jam, leaving soldiers vulnerable to enemy fire. "It's the difference between old and new." It's a project that's been in the works for several years.

The old rickety AKM's in Afghan inventories suck ####, newer AK-74M's and the AK-100 series compare more favourably.

Ok couse the old AK's jam ..and the F-15 was badly beaten against the SU-27..how the else would you justify for new equipment?? C7's or F-22's :)

Liars. 47's never jam. 74's never jam either. Our friends Afganies are being sold to uncle sam. Thats it, no more independent Afghanistan, long live financial slave ethernally poor third country afghan (aka afstan). The whole business is stinks.

Say what?? Dude, watch the story or re-read the article.

WE (CF) have given them surplus C7's and are training them in their use.. The US did not sell them these firearms.

And quite frankly it makes alot of sense in terms of simple logistics and support to equip 'allies' with weapons firing the same rounds.

Your mistake lies in thinking that there is a difference between the two ;)

Oh really? You don't think there is a difference between the US and Canada? Or a difference between selling and giving? Or a difference between the rest of the crazy nonsense 22lr wrote and reality? Or is it that you don't see a difference in something I am just missing?

*Note that this thread is mildly mis-titled in that the AK versus C7 jamming comment was from an ANA member ... not a weapons review or anything else. He is used to antiquated weaponry that was probably close to junk and is merely happy to have something better and rightly so.

Right out to lunch. Clearly never been there or up on what is going on in that region except for what they hear in the media! I loathe people like this.

I don't even know what to say to this. There is so much difference between us and the U.S. that it's ridiculous. Such a broad comment. I'm hoping he was joking.

My take
I have a Norinco 84S-1 in 223.
Got it back in 88.
I have driven the crap out of this
rifle with almost 0 jams.
no s**t.

Cheers

Well I have the remains of several here that didn't last very long at all and gave constant problems.

Armchair warriors please note, the AK may be slightly more reliable than the M16, but not much, and both systems are very effective when employed correctly. New rifles are better than old worn out ones. All rifle bullets are deflected by foliage. Are there any more silly myths that need addressing?

I'll bet C7 is better than old English muzzle loader too... AK-47 is obsolete and even AKM is a gun from the past like FAL in Canadian Army.... AK-74 and AN-94 are only guns that you should compare to current guns... they're also not 7.62, but 5.45 which is about the same as 5.6 (due to difference who caliber is calculated there)
