I know that there is a thread on the USMC vs the Army adopting a replacement for the M855 rounds, but I didn't want to derail that thread.
I also understand that the UK is trying to develop a similar improved round too.
While this could be in the ammo thread, 5.56 is so inherent to the black rifle thread, I think it belongs here most appropriately.

In the last year or so there have been warnings put out about C77 ammo by the CF.
Essentially it is a warning not to de-link the ammo from the C9 belts and a warning not to use those rounds in C7 rifles.
It includes the examples of the destruction and damage to rifles from having done this.

So it leads me to ask;
Was this just an 'off' batch of C77 that was produced and used in the C9 link belts?
Or,,, has Canada been trying to follow the lead of the US and UK in trying to come up with a newer round to replace the regular C77?

C77 has always had a stellar reputation not far behind the RUAG GP90.
So have standards slipped?
Was there a bad batch or are they changing the performances?
I can't see a reason for a different performance just because the round is intended for the C9.

They probably loaded the machine gun ammo hotter. They use to do the same thing with the IVI 9mm. It was made to cycle in the C1 SMG.

Their was or is a problem with some C77 ammo. We've been using battle packs for at least a year because it was made prior to the bad lots.

The delinking thing is with blanks only. Apparently the linked blank ammo is specifically made for the C9 (I didn't know this, I thought all 5.56x45mm blanks were the same?) and destroys C7A2 and C8A3 HH buffers (I've had to replace so many buffers at the school where all the courses go through and shoot thousands of blanks). It was apparently because of people delinking blanks from C9 boxes and using them in their C7A2s. I guess they are hotter to cycle the machine guns better.

As for live C77 rounds, they apparently made millions of C77 rounds with a bad propellant that would blow up rifles. Lots have been identified starting in 2012 if I remember correctly. Since they made so much of it we're going to shoot it all by only shooting 5 rounds every minute and wearing our fragmentation vests, helmets and ballistic glasses.

Yay!

Thanks Crosshairs.
So yes a bad lot.
Solution is to fire it.

I can never see using blanks in a civvie rifle.

Never even heard about the issue with blanks.
I knew about the short vs long barrel for C9 blanks.
The C9 seems to be pretty fussy weapon for blanks doesn't it?

I don't believe that "Official explanation" as I've seen plenty of C8s with mushroom buffers that never touched blank or C9 ammo.

If the round has the same model number it is made to the same specifications, therefore a C77 Ball rounds packed in op pack, training pack or linked is the same cartridge. C79 Blank differs from C79A1 but both cartridges can be used in the C7, C8 and C9. There are some restrictions on some specific lots which prevent these lots from being used or limits their use to specific applications.

The 5.56mm simunitions (FX Rounds) are different and if the cartridges are de-linked and used in the rifles they will cause damage to the rifles.
