I picked up, years ago a couple of the CF C79 scopes that had been sold surplus I assume because of the fine specks of dust inside. They are legit surplus, not stolen but because they were ex CF, Elcan dealers do not support them.

Is there anyone out there who can do the correct nitrogen purge of these scopes for me?

The glass is great, you don't even notice the dust if you are concentrating on the target, but I do not want to use them, especially in wet weather without nitrogen inside.

PM me if you can help or know someone who can help.

I plan on doing mine in the near future when I change the tritium source. I am ordering an alternative tritium source this week and have the Elcan repair manual downloaded that was sent to me by another member here and will be using the nitrogen we use at work for pressure testing ac systems. The instructions are pretty basic a certain pressure for a set length of time purging the put the screw back in the scope body. There is a part number for a tube adapter to place on the purging line in the scope body and I have no idea where to get that but will improvise with some 5/32" plastic tubing we also use at work. I also have cut up an old C79 scope body I bought for 20 bucks to better understand the configuration of the inside guts and how the tritium is held in place and how the light source is transferred to the reticle. The laws on tritium have changed and it seems no one will replace it for a civilian although I bought this scope new from Wolverine approx. 13 years ago. If you can wait and see how mine turns out and I will also be testing the finished job by freezing the scope in the freezer then setting out into the warm outside and checking for internal fogging.--Dieseldog!

Im sure im not the only one who'd be interested in how it turns out for you! Ive got one in nedd of tritium replacement and have been trying to figure a)'how to, or b) someone else that does and can do it. Youd have a pretty good group of people looking to you if its a service youd be willing to offer

Your right that they refurbish the C79 all day long but cannot change the tritium for a civi as they have already told me. I have been told by someone in the nuclear industry that in North America the controls on tritium have tightened as its a critical component of a nuclear weapons trigger. Can anyone comment?--Dieseldog!

Very true. If that stuff hits the atmosphere everyone in the immediate area is in danger. Hopefully everyone finds a qualified individual /business to preform this.
