Update:

Dangertree has been hounding me through pm's. He wouldn't stop until we hammer out what I really wanted. I had to concede.

I was promised the best deal I could find anywhere, but frankly I don't care. What I care about is the level of customer service and getting what I am looking for, especially if it is not what I thought I wanted.

Thank you all.

**************************************************

After coming back, I will be in the market for a C7a1 looking upper. I want to compete with it, shoot 62gr bullet and look like a CF issued upper to the casual observer.

I was told Wolverine Suplies can build me one pretty easely, but with a 1:9 twist. I sure it would work, I just would rather have a 1:8 or 1:7 twist. Am I off base?

A, B and C do not seem to sell one.

Money is not really an issue, but upwards of $2000 is pushing it.

More specs: 20" HBAR
.223 Rem Match chamber
Could be free floated, if it is not readily apparent.

Thought, suggestions?

Edit: I would much rather buy new, unless someone has a terrific deal, and even then he would need 3 references, a criminal background check and full blood work.

quickest way to get 1/7" is to buy one of the Colt Sporters on the CGN EE and swap out the upper receiver for a flattop and offset screw approx $10.00 for the screw, about $160ish for the upper and the guns seem to go for $1300ish. YMMV

For example:

It is almost exactly the route I went except the offset screw:

MiracleJoe: First of all, I'm damn glad that we did not lose you or any CGNutters from our community while deployed. Welcome back to Kanada.

Now with the 7" or 8" twist barrels, don't fret or lose any sleep. I've had super success shooting the 68 gr Hornadys and 69 gr Sierra MKHPBT with 9" twist barrels. Even won quite a few CFSAC/NSCC gold medals with these bullets launched from an Olympic Arms 20" long 9" twist barrel.

You are not alone in your quest to own and compete with a C7A1 clone, especially 'in the spirit' of Service Rifle. I know many ex-mil and current service Res and Reg pers who shoot on their own (without unit support) time at our (back then) ORA matches, Mons Range, Base Boredom. Many of them shoot Colt HBar flat tops with Elcans (good results too). Remember, I ain't young enough to deploy to the 2 way range you just came from. We are shooters of paper on a one way range, so I've giving the Elcan the nod (within this context).

Many of these current serving and ex-mil competitors bring a variety of brands and a multitude of barrel lengths, not to mention the different brands of optics and corresponding price points. DCRA rules say, any glass, any rifle in the Service Conditions matches. Many PRA's require glass no higher than 4X, other PRA's say, "any glass" as well.

I noticed that we have a few dealers chiming in here. They know what they are talking about. Check out their suggestions...

Work with your price point and your game. Most of all, come out and have fun with 'the usual suspects'. :) LOL

No1paperpuncher, I think I hear your mom calling for dinner.

Why not just leave the grownups to talk?

I'm not back yet. Probably not before August.

Thank you all for the help. I will be hunting down dealers soon, as I want it ready to go as soon as I come back.

No1paperpuncher, man, why do you keep posting that needpics line in threads that already have and don't necessarily even need pics? are you just trying to bump your post count?

oh and x2 on sparrow's idea to buy a sporter in the ee and change the upper, thats a great idea.

Hello,
I was thinking about doing the same thing...but cant realy find an Elcan scope with a green rubber...only black ones out there i think.

is it for sale?? cuz of all the tags. lol.

I know nothing about AR's, so here is a dumb question: Dangertree,
what brand is that OD buttstock?

Most likely a Stag (Dangertree = Arms East), most of the major commercial AR manufacturers offer furniture in OD.

I was told Bushmaster. Stag Arms doesn't offer green, they sourced them for that order, a small batch of G-Specs in OD Green.

Hey Dangertree: Does this Bushmaster OD Green collapsing buttstock come with a Milspec buffer tube ?

Cheers,
Barney
Negative. That's where I got the brand, was told 'normal Bushmaster spec' when I inquired afterwards. Order was just for OD furniture on the rifles.
