C7A2 Balance issues.

What? are you saying the CF doesn't buy the absolute best for for the troops!

Having worked in NDHQ, I can tell you that whoever came up with the A2 probably thought, at the time, that they WERE buying the best that was available.

And maybe they were...

Procurement and settling on a configuration control version of the weapon takes so bloody long, it was probably a 5 year project to get the weapon fielded and new stuff came along in the meantime - lol.

The money thing is a bit of an unrealistic argument. To build a C7A1 into a C7A2, they basically replace most of the upper. If you are replacing most of the upper anyhow, why not just make them into C8FTHB's or C8A3's? That would at least make more sense and come in at comparable cost.

I suspect it's the same reason why the Lee Enfield kept the mag cutoff for so long. The LCMM in Ottawa likely carried a C7A1 in Yugoslavia and therefore everyone who comes after will carry what worked for him ;)

I was being sarcastic dude, and adjusted my post accordingly;)

tho i am sure people out there do think that way even after abominations like the LSVW

The LSVW is a different kettle of fish. When it comes to transport vehicles, typically the (usually liberal) politicians can't help themselves from insisting it be at least built in Canada, so we get whichever POS is willing to enter into a stretegic partnership with, say, Bombardier or Western Star ;)

I saw a modest proposal once (from a MCpl) that suggested an 18 inch barrel with rails, but that would never work, he was infantry for crying out loud, what would he know - wonder what happened to that guy?

Well the CF did go for the HK GMG, 50cal BMG, Rem 870, FN MAG and FN minimi so not all of the guns were bad ideas :)

Yeah the P225 was a very bad buy for the job and the SAR techs are alittle dumb for picking 30-06 gun "why not stick with 7.62 if your picking a round that will not kill a polar bear lol"

Oh and the M203 with that stupid metal spacer "that no one else uses in the world but Diamaco  "heard its to keep barrel heat away from the M203 and so you can still mount the bayo" Epic fail!!!!

Sorry for the rant lol

Now the C7A2 was a half a$$ upgrade but atleast a upgrade

-Tri-ad is a cheap fix but a rock soild mount and holds a zero
-4 position stock is good and needed
-cocking handle sucks but the broken pin issue is fixed and still better then the A1 type
-Ambi selector is GTG
-Ambi mag catch is a PITA some times "but good for lefty devil childs"
-rubber butt pad is good
-Otis battery compartment in pistol grip is a waist of money
-green handgaurds are a waist of money but break up the rifle abit
-rear sling plate is a F^&*ING POS "it is a finger eater!" it is not ambi ethier or good with any modern sling clip!

What a bunch of high on themselves haters we have here.

I think the ACS with batteries is the best idea in this thread.

Not all units are full of dinosaurs, some can be quite progressive.

I remember working with a 5' woman who was around way back when they still had the old FAL and once she got a hold of the C7A2, she was quite happy that the stocks are adjustable and can accomadate her size. The old FAL and even the C7A1 were all too big for her because of the full butt stock. Best way to see the balance issue is that yes it can be bad because of the adjustable buttstock being lighter, but remember the little guy and think, how the hell can this fella use a full stock?
