Hey there again, everyone!

I've been thinking about trying my hand at building AR-15's, and that green furniture on the C7A2 just gets my heart pumping :D

So, I had some questions for all of you guys. I've been thinking of basing the build on an NEA upper and lower assembly, but I can't find anything on what the colour of the rifle's finish is like. Are the stripped assemblies that SFRC is selling that weird grey colour, or are they black? Also, Where do I find an A2 profile 20" 1-7 barrel? The furniture and Elcan OS3.4x are proving difficult to find as well.

Thanks!

Rock River furniture is spot on, I have it on my C8A2 clone. Not sure about the current legality of bbls as per US export, but they have 20" 1-9 twist bbls too. Myself I wouldn't worry about the 1-7 twist much, as most of the ammo on the market is 55gn not the 62gn military spec. And loading that much 62gn for most of us who like to shoot them lots gets pretty pricey compared to 55gn stuff. and the 1-9 does a good job there. Good luck with the Elcan, they are really pricy if you can find them. I found the Millet DMS 1-4x24 does an adequate job and inexpensively. The milspec elcan C79 isn't a 4x scope either, it's actually a 3.4x28 IIRC, so you can dial down the millet and you get pretty close to the same FOV too.

Wolverine, ATRS, Questar can all get you a 20" A2 profile bbl but it might take a couple months to import.

For a proper A2 clone, you should use forged receivers, not billet.

Thanks everyone, the community really came through as usual! I plan to load C77 spec ammunition, so I'll talk to one of those dealers about a barrel. Does anyone have a good example of a forged reciever for reasonable price?

There are some nice pieces on that thread. I admit mine isn't nearly as true a clone as those. mostly so I can go to the range and shoot a decent approximation. Go figure, we have PT three times a week to make sure we pass the express test once a year, but only get on the range once to qualify that same day. Such is the life in CE on an air base.

RRA reciever, lacking ambi hardware (I hate that cocking handle) and no triad.

NICE! How do you like the Millett?

the Millet DMS is quality well beyond it's price point. Being telescopic it allows you to dial it back to match the c79 magnification, plus has a very good true 1x magnification that is relatively free of distortion allowing for both eyes open shooting and the illuminated reticle is plenty bright. The donut-dot wouldn't be my first choice, but admittedly does a good job of giving quick easy target acquisition shooting with both eyes, and is actually at specific graduations layed out in the manual. It also means you get a 1 MOA dot an 1/4" clicks which is nice if you want to stretch it out. The glass isn't as clear as the higher priced scopes, but really, you're not paying $600 or more either.

Armseast used to or is still carrying 20" Government profile barrel IFAIK. The receivers are in general black and you can find most of the other useless enhancements as off the shelf items. The grey colour is more like an "old colt" colour.

The green furiture of the C7 has IR siguature reduction stuff - so you are not going to have a perfect C7 clone.

Found me a C79; only $450! I am one happy camper. Furniture is no longer an issue either, and I've decided to go the C8 route with an S&J hardware barrel. I'm going to be using Armalite furniture, a Palmetto State Armoury lower, a DD LPK, a DD upper, but I'm undecided on my bolt choice. Input and opinions on my setup? Also, does anyone know how to recolour the rubber cowling on a C79 to OD green? (bit of nitpicky nonsense: does the finish of the DD upper match that of the PSA lower? If I had two different colours going on, it would bug the hell out of me...)

Extra points for the Red Ensign.

Well, things have sort of hit a snag. Turns out the barrel I had in mind was all wrong for my build... Does anyone know where I could source a 14.5" carbine gas system 1-7 barrel with an A2 flash hider? I would like either an M4 profile or a light weight.

Not going to happen if you need chrome lined. If you don't care, try S&J Hardware.

You can get a Armalite green one.
