Can you elaborate on the word "easily." I want to know exactly how you remove them. Torque the FH off and it slips off by hand?

Easy like in "slip off with my weak hand" Unless it has been on for a while or covered in paint then its two hands

Earlier guns it did not come off for love nor money, I gather from what Dsiwy and Reaper are saying is the method changed, because prior to that a hammer and delrin block would not take ealier ones off.

I noticed that crush washer was installed in the opposite way common to what we see. Any reason for it or just one of those things that doesn't really matter?

On the models with the sleeve, the taper on the washer points towards the front of the barrel. If put on the other way it apparently has detrimental effects on the accuracy (so I was told at my last trip to Colt Canada). All other rifles have the taper facing the rear of the barrel.

I haven't played with that many, 3 or 4 maybe, but those defintately weren't coming off by hand. Or they may have ended up in my hands

Is that backward compatible with the US M203 (hence the shallow thinned out area on the barrel ahead of gas block)?

That would depend on how much use the rifle has had.
