So, I just got off shift a few hours ago, can't sleep...anyways, back to the question.

I was talking to my relieving co-worker and he was adamant that the Canadian military's C7 is for sniper work only and that the C8 is for riflemen only and that they have a built in grenade launcher.

I disagree on all counts.
Please prove either myself or my co-worker wrong. A pizza rides on this.

The C7A2 is the current adopted Canadian infantry rifle. As far as I know, the C8 is a special purpose carbine and I've never seen an AR platform with a permanently attached grenade launching device.

C7A2 is the general issue rifle, the C8A2 is issued to reg force armour units and MP's. both rifles can have the M203 GL attached to it.

C8A3*.

The C8A2 from Colt Canada is a model that was never in the CF. I think police forces may use it but I have no idea.

The models we have were the C8, some C8s with flat-top receivers in Afghanistan (and other places), then came the C8FTHBs and finally the C8A3s. Around 400 carbines are stamped C8FTHBA3. Colt Canada used C8FTHB-stamped lower receivers when they started making the C8A3 and just added "A3" at the end.

C7 is the Infantry rifle as it is a rifle. The C8 is the shorter carbine used for armored divisions and Para Operations or anywhere they need a close quarters weapon system.

Coppers use C8's cause they are small and fit into the rack of their cruisers rack without poking through the roof.

The only real difference is 4'' off the Barrel.

C7 = 20''
C8 = 16"

Both have flat tops, collapsible but stocks, the optics are interchangeable, (some use terrible plastic b/u sight, some Elcan 3.4, some EO tech) same grips, and the Upper and Lower are the same, both can be fitted with the M203 launcher

That and they are both just standard Infantry weapons and every unit hands them out to different people for different reasons, some give all the 203 dudes c8's. some give LAV crew's the c8, some old Sgts and Wos take all the c8's (and pistols for that matter)

The C7CT is a diffrent story, the one I used a few times was held at the Coy. level and given out for specific tasks. It had a 20'' stainless match bbl, (painted of course) suppressor, solid buttstock, and that crazy pistol grip from the PSG and a schmit on top. That was only give to dudes with a marksman course.

Do they still use the C3 or is that the replacement for it. I kinda hope not. The C3 was a bigger round.

I think the PGW Timberwolf is the C3 replacement (But I'm no longer in the CF--and for a long time, so I'm not current with all my info)

Any pictures? I haven't seen one yet.

We should post pics of all the "C" types so his buddy is no longer spouting off the ridiculous. Another case of a guy who fills in the blanks for something he doesn't know. I hate stupid people.

Short video of the Timberwolf

(The link I posted above --post #9 has some of the "C" types, it's a wonky site and requires a little searching and digging down the left side)

I guess you could use the C7 as a DMR type rifle, with some optics on it... however, I think as a "sniper rifle" you'll want a bigger calibre anyways
