C8 Question

FWIW, there is a separate class for CF personnel to shoot their C7A2/C79s in the sniper matches at NSCC. We gave it a trial last summer, and it was well received.
The OPP issue C8s have the short barrels, 10 1/2" IIRC. Semi auto only.

C7 is the Infantry rifle as it is a rifle. The C8 is the shorter carbine used for armored divisions and Para Operations or anywhere they need a close quarters weapon system.

While it is true that traditionally the Infantry used the C7 and Armoured used the C8, it hasn't been like that for awhile. The Dragoons had their C8s taken from them back in 2007. Strathconas may still have them since I think that's all that will fit in the tanks. C8s may be encountered in pretty much any unit these days, though in limited numbers and assigned to those in specific tasks or roles in any way the CO of that unit sees fit.

Para operations will not get you a C8 over a regular infanteer, they have the same allotment as the other rifle companies.

When I was in the airborne attached to 1RCR, (back in the day) they gave us all C8s. Mind you that was when we weren't disbanded too.

What does the Armored guys use now days? I was recently blown away of what the replacement for the C3 was. Amazing, the changes.

Strats have C8FTHB. They still have some of the trial M203, which the CF should of went to.

My guess would be that it'll use Colt Canada's monolithic upper. I think the Danes' been using C7s with that upper for a while already.

The US is not adopting the Per Advission rail, he can talk all he wants at JSAS etc, but its not going to get 1 million rails in the US replaced - not do any current USG requirements call for anything but a 1913 rai.

The 1913 rail will take the 'NATO' Rail accesorries and mostly vice versa -- all that was done is make a mettic drawing and reduce some tolerances.
