i've been looking through the interweb at pictures. seems most are of airsift guns or homemade versions. alittle confused as to how to build it more correctly. green plastics, right?

stock, it appears as though a CAR 4 position stock is the more correct version.

grip, A2 grip, just the standard version?

handguards, NOT the fat M4 style but the carbine handguards. i see a two piece rail in some photos, what kind is that?

norgon ambi mag release, who makes that claw style charging handle? what kind of ambi selector?

is there another source for the infamous sight rail? the Cadex ones are $300????? that is just insane.

anything else as far as trim/accessories?

Here is the current website version.

There are about a dozen configurations of that carbine. Which one are you thinking of? Canada? UK? Norway? Police?

Which sleeve? Breaching? M203? Suppressor?

Fixed or folding front sight? Reinforced front sight forging?

The C8A3 has green glass fibre filled handguards, and green plastic A2 style grip, textured green stock and rubber butt pad.

Early ones had Knights RAS, black grip with a trap door and black plastic stock.

The Triad rail and the CF cocking handle are proprietary to Colt Canada and not available for sale.

Check out BCM .... They make a very close to the original triad and upper.

One shot tactical will have them soon.

As for the other parts other then norgon ambi mag release the are made by colt canada and not available.

As noted BCM makes an excellent upper. That's a Colt stock (try the EE, they do show up) - fiberlite I believe. Round hand guards, A2 grip, as noted - Cadex makes a triad clone, and Motiuk can make the receiver with markings for you. I'm not sure about the ambi fire selector, but, really, how many designs can there be, basically it'll just get in the way anyway. To make the stock, grip and hand guards the right colour, I believe Krylon is what's normally used.

The C8A3 has green glass fibre filled handguards,

I realize that more of these cross your hands than mine but all of the A3s that I've seen had black thermoplastic handguards that had been painted/coated green, not glass fibre like the C7A2. Of course these may have been early ones and new ones could come with glass fibre handguards.

When the SFW was first released it came with a Knight's RAS and black furniture, no ambi parts. C8FTHB was identical but with black CAR handguards instead of the rail. C8A3 changed to green furniture with ambi parts.

True. The early FTHB were small in number and just purchased under a UOR. Most were just uppers.

Like I said, there were dozens of configurations. The concept is essentially a C8 with a flat top rail, a longer heavy sleeved barrel. All the other parts to configure them, including the sleeves, were interchangeable.

Colt Canada has a license for Norgon to produce the ambi-mag release. But Norgon is also going bankrupt from what I heard. So who knows how long they will be around. The other option is the KAC RAS with green panels and VFG. That's what JTF2 did. The Canadian issued panels have little maple leafs on them, but they is still some after market ones out there.

I don't know about small in number. 3RCR received 2 per section back in '06, all marked C8FTHB. Can't speak for the other Bns though. Most have been redistributed God knows where because of Afghanistan.
