C8

what fool over there did you listen to? :D

Yeah, no kidding! :D

It's been a pretty interesting topic. KevinB's pic is the first one I've seen with that profile that wasn't in Diemaco/Colt literature. I briefly though about replicating the SFW barrel, but for the life of me I can't figure out why on earth I'd want to ADD weight to an HBAR! :eek:

Well,, I guess that's what I'm saying.
The C8A2 may be some in use, and in inventory, like the C8A1, but they are probably ones acquired for operational requirements, buy-and-try, and not brought into general service. Something like how the AR10 was acquired and fielded.

Shelldrake is right, we do have them in CF inventory but not "in the system". There are units that can buy whatever they need, there are trials, buy-and- trys etc. The CF designates formal nomenclature for "in service" weapons and does not for small buy or trial equipment. That is where the confusion often results. There is Colt's commercial names for stuff and there is DND's name and they may be different for what is basically the same gun. No big deal.

From the Director Soldier Systems Programme Management tech update:

There are now three (3) ‘variants’ of the C8 Carbine in inventory.
1. The C8 Carbine-with 14.5” barrel -carrying handle –blackfurniture;
2. The C8 FTHB-with 16” heavy barrel -flat top receiver -blackfurniture;
3. The C8 FTHBA3–with 16” heavy barrel –flat top receiver –greenfurniture -ambidextrous parts –issued w/Triad I C8FTHB (qty 400 produced with this receiver marking); and
3a. The C8A3–same –the only difference is C8A3 marking on the receiver.

End-state for this Carbine fleet will be the C8A3 –and that will take time.
