C96 Broomhandle won't cycle

Hello

I have a c96 broomhandle, that I finally got around to shooting. But it won't seem to cycle, at all. I can strip the rounds in, bolt slams shut, pull trigger it goes bang and then nothing. I thought it was the ammo at first, but I tried some brand new ppu and still nothing. After really watching the slide I noticed it's not moving at all after firing a round (no blow back action). I basically have a bolt action broomhandle.

Would it be springs? I thought I would get some kind of slide movement, failure to feed or eject but nothing.

I'm not looking to shoot it everyday but it would be nice to know it functions right.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated thank you

The c96 is a locked short recoil action. Check if the barrel is seized, because if it can’t move back then the bolt won’t unlock.

Are you referring the the back and forth "movement " between the barrel and frame?

If so yes the barrel does move along the frame , I can manipulate it back and forth slightly.
 
Sounds like the recoil block in the receiver is jammed. Might be a mismatch, that doesn't fit properly?? All of the parts are serialized so it's easily checked.

It's a carefully fitted piece that locks the slide in place during ignition and falls out of the way right after so ejection of the spent cartridge will happen.

I had that happen once on a beat up specimen, put together from parts.

You may also have one of the heavy duty Wolf Spring kits installed. Those are purpose made to be able to shoot surplus 7.62x25, without breaking parts in the pistol. They require a very stout load to allow the pistol to function properly.
 
Bearhunter, think you maybe on to something. The recoil block though matching appears to be a replacement part that was stamped to match. I'm not 100% up to date in how these things function, but Ill take a closer look at the block as what you are saying makes sense. As for the spring situation Im in the process of ordering all new factory spec springs.

Second what Bearhunter is saying about the Wolff springs. Mine needs my reloads to be pretty stout to cycle. It was a bit of an exercise in frustration to work up the recipe... to the point where they would cycle the TT reliably but still not the c-96...

When the ammo was too weak all I was seeing is the bolt moving back a bit then pushing the brass back in the chamber. Did't start getting stovepipes until I upped the charge... What bullet speed are you getting right now?
