Hey,

I was initially considering a DPMSe Ar-10 (hard to get, still restricted, even rem r25) or Sabre Ar-15, for a bling gun at the range for some fun. Due to high cost, and the fact both are restricted, I wanted to maybe by consider a 858-2 none restricted rifle from wolverine.

I know the barrel is not chromed lined. I would like to keep it none restricted.

I wanted to:

Upgrade the Barrel to a chromed line barrel.
rail system
trigger job?
New but stock
red dot or reflex sights
Polymer mags?
Pistol grip
Forward grip


Are you allowed to hunt in Ontario with a 7.62x39 or .223?

Would Cz-858 ever come close to accuracy of a Ar-15 at 200 meters? Could you keep 6" groups at 200 meters? What is a potential of a accurazied and sighted in CZ 858 or 58?

Should I go with the .223 CZ 58 model?

Would I be better of with Ar-15?

Are both rifles just as reliable? Little jamming, solid quality parts?

Any good stores in Canada with accessories for the CZ?

Clobbersauras, can you point to where in the MNR Ontario regs it says you can't hunt big game with 223? I looked here; http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/stdprodconsume/groups/lr/@mnr/@fw/documents/document/251888.pdf and on page 21 & 22, it says Centerfire for big game, & that you can't carry anything larger than a 22 if you don't have a deer licence, during deer season. Nothing I saw says no 223...

I'd planned on popping a deer with my Tavor & the 64 grain Winchester PowerPoint ammo.

As for the OP's question, I have a Norinco M4, love it, but restricted... I have the 858-2, love it, I'm not concerned about the barrel not being chromed. And I have some nice 7.62x39 soft point for hunting with it.

If I were you, and you want to hunt with the firearm, well, that kinda narrows down your choices AND excludes the AR15 family...

Sorry, that's news to me. I just assumed it. I don't live in ONT. Someday I'll learn....:redface:

For the love of god don't assume, especially when it involves the government, especially our Ontario government.

We may be getting bent over on most things but we still have the god given right to shoot a moose in the face with a .223 if we want to! :cheers:
 
saw a guy at a service rifle match this morning engage targets at 500 yards with his 858. He's pretty damn good. Your mileage may vary.
 
I found my 858 to be as accurate as my ar 180 b. The my norinco cq was slightly more accurate then both of them. There may be more potential accuracy with an ar, but shooting the cheap stuff they are all about the same. All were easily capable of ringing a 16 inch gong a 300 meters
