I just picked up a bl22 and am wanting to scope it but can't afford a expensive scope right now. I was looking at the cabelas caliber specific rimfire scopes for $120 and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experience with them.

I briefly had one of them, the .30-30 version. The reticle graduations were fairly well-matched to the ammo I was using, but the adjustments were very rough-feeling, and not at all consistent. Low-grade optics, poor image quality as well.

I can't imagine anything that sells for $120 new will be much better. If you can swing a bit more cash I think it would be money well spent. Even better, spend the money on a good-quality lightly-used scope on the EE. A scope for a .22 doesn't necessarily need to be bullet-proof, since it won't be subjected to a lot of recoil and it's unlikely that you will ever be taking a once-in-a-lifetime important shot with it. However, you'll probably shoot your .22 a lot more than a centerfire hunting rifle, so having good quality optics will go a long way towards ensuring that you enjoy shooting the gun.

I had a couple of the Cabela's "Pineridge" tactical series scopes with turrets on my 10/22 - what I mean, is I bought one, had it replaced under warranty when it fell apart internally, only to have a repeat failure. It was discontinued by then, after a bit I was finally issued a store credit, which I wasted on a Tasco, thankfully, that still works. I know it's a different model, possibly even made by a different supplier, but I'll never buy another store branded optic.

Chinese garbage for the low priced lines, Euro line is made by Meopta apparantly.
Get a Simmons 22mag....still chinese garbage but as good of optics as you are going to get out of China. I have a few 3-9x32 on a few .22s and they are fine for that job.
$47 from Higginsons

Nikon P-Rimfire or Nikon Prostaff Rimfire Target EFR (what I have on my Savage MKII - love it) can be had for under $200. Actually, there are now at least 4 Nikon Prostaff Rimfire models of varying sizes/magnification all around the $150 mark. If you can afford to spend $120 on a crappy scope, save a little bit longer and buy something decent for not much more money. P&D in Edmonton has both and had the best prices last time I checked, and the prices are even shown online.

Also recommend the Bushnell AR/22 - about $150.
