Cabelas can kiss my hairy ( ! )

Is this Cabela's or Cabelas Canada we're talking about? I've had great luck with Cabela's, but Cabela's Canada is a giant step down from S.I.R.

Not sure why that's the case, the employees are the same as they were when it was SIR, for the most part.
One problem is that their mail order dept. is separate from those working in the store. There's no one available on weekends from the shipping/processing dept. either, so one has to phone weekdays to get answers on orders.

I do find their website quite good. It usually says if an item is backordered.
Wholesale on the other hand has every gun/caliber/accessory imaginable in their catalog, but don't stock or can't get half the items listed.

I think you're whining about nothing.

They sent you the s**t they had in stock... good.
The other stuff is back order or you ask for something else... big deal.

Im whining because i shouldnt have to pay double shipping when it could have and should have been all sent at once. I WASN'T NOTIFIED THAT IT WAS BACKORDERED
If you like taking it in the ass, good for you. some people stand up for themselves

I have attempted to place half a dozen orders in the last 18 months and everytime when they say its in stock I get a letter saying its back ordered and have to wait 30-90 days. The last time I tried to order the VTR 597 and the owman said it was restricted and when I told her it wasnt she felt the need to argue with me. I cancelled my order to bought privately. I simply wont deal with them anymore. Not worth my time.

I returned my boots due to poor fit over 3 weeks ago. Still not credited to my visa. Each time we inquire we get a different reason.

Call Visa and have them do it........worked for me;)

I try and buy from the smaller local outfits to avoid the BS that comes from the Big Chains.

Cabela's has been great so far with their on time shipping and everything being in the box that is supposed to be in the box. Cabela's Canada on the other hand is quit a joke from my experience.

.

Whole different mail order system now and they often notify my snail mail. Poor way of doing it, you wait and just when you expect delivery you get a letter saying it is back ordered and asking for you to phone them.

You folks are buying from the Wal-Mart of outdoor trinkets.

What were you folks seriously expecting?

If you want service, you'll have to purchase elsewhere...

Not sure about the Canadian Cabela's but the US site has an option when you checkout that says "If an item is on backorder ship anyway."

I have ordered MANY things from Cabelas US, ever since they added Cabelas Canada the duty doesnt make it worth while.

All my cabelas orders were fast and exactly as I ordered. Bass Pro USA has been just as good to me.

Ok I ordered a non-restricted gun and lee loader on December 5th. I called on Monday to find out what the tracking number is and the lady told me they are waiting for the CFC to get back to them. I thought that was weird becasue it only takes me 5 seconds to call in a transfer. I called today to follow up and the guy said "sorry it doesn't usually take this long to ship an order". Nothing about the CFC this time but he said it would probably ship in a few days. A little vague.

I'm not pissed off but hate waiting.

End of Nov 08 I ordered 2 fishing reels as xmas gifts. I made sure to order ones that were in stock so that they would be shipped to me right away. They assured that they had stock of the 2. 2 weeks go by and I still have no sign of them. So I call and they say they can't find one of the 2, well I asked how long they were going to wait until they called me, they had no idea. This almost spoiled 2 people x mas gifts, I was able to get a different one not ideal to what I wanted but it would do. Came in with 2 days to spare only. I did manage to talk to a manager about it. They asked me to put my next order in with them personally and they would do something for me. I haven't ordered from them yet again. cabelas Canada

I quit using the big box stores a couple of years ago it was to painful dealing with them. Besides they never have anything in stocks...

Omineca Source for Sports and Grouse River Outfitters get all my business now. You get excellent customer service and generally items are in stock and if they are not they will get them for you....

Both stores do mail order as well but you still get that personal touch that seems to be lacking in the service with the bigger stores...

I just called and they haven't shipped my order yet, so I cancelled it. Too bad, I had ordered up one of the Mossy ATR's that is on sale and a Lee Loader. I'm way too impatient to wait for 2 weeks without them shipping. I'm not saying that they gave me bad service but it seemed weird when they said they didn't know why they hadn't shipped the package. I was thinking just go ship it now, but they didn't seem to be able to do that so I cancelled the order. I can just go to Lebaron's this afternoon and pick a rifle off the shelf and bring it home with me so if Cabela's wants to compete in this market, they'll need to be a little quicker. Maybe the ATR wasn't meant to be, a few people told me that I should spend the extra $50 and get a Stevens 200. Is this a Karma thing?

I have done business with Cabela's in the US and they were phenominal with service. I ordered a ton of equipment and had them ship it from Arizona to Maine so I could pick it all up while on vacation. They even gave me a credit on one of the items when I picked it up as it had since gone on sale. Oh, and the Maine store had all my stuff waiting for me 48hrs after ordering it.

Perhaps this thread should be sent to Cabela's US as a little feedback on their Canadian operation so far. Might prompt a quicker transition to what Cabela's in the US is like. I have used the US mail order a couple of times and have the items shipped to Grand Forks and coincide the pick-up with a little trip down there. Saves shipping, ensures the product is in stock in the Grand Forks store, no duty, and a good excuse for a little shopping vacation for my wife, etc. The Grand Forks store will hold the items for quite a while too which helps on getting in on sales and some discontinued firesale items. They are great. As for the store here in Winnipeg; it is not SIR and not Cabela's but seems to be in some grey area in between so far. Some items are very good or equal to the US pricing and some are way out of whack. Some duties apply I guess depending on where the product is coming from.
I was just told yesterday that they have 800 mostly Russian SKS's in stock in the back that cannot be sold yet because of some bs screwup with the firearms center on the whole shipment. The guy at the counter was not impressed either as the rifle is in their recent flyer. Sounds like they got some good ones, original blued finishes, matching numbers, silver bolts, etc. going for $259. I have to say though that both Cabela's and WSS here in Winnipeg are pretty good if you get the right person when you are there. That applies anywhere. I prefer to shop in person if at all possible. I used to spend a fair bit at WSS in Saskatoon as well. From the time they were Dixon's even. A great used rifle rack and they were fair in trading in stuff too.

my story with them is this, i ordered two -40 degree sleeping bags, quite costly i assure you, they ship and when i get them they are both +40 degree bags and catalogue cost of 34.00 each i paid well over 400 for the bags. i phoned and ask WTF, they said it was a substitution as the color i wanted was not in stock! again i asked WTF how is a +40 degree bag a substitute for a -40 bag? well they said it seemed logical to send the bags out to you. OK, i say why wouldn't you just call and ask if i wanted a sustitute? no answer, there going back i say and your paying the shipping, well we won't do that sir. well after paying the shipping back to them (not cheap) it took 5 calls for them to credit my card and another 4 calls for them to return shiping costs, on the last call an honest person finally told me they wait as long as possible to return funds as it makes there bottom line for months end look better! all is well with the card now and they lost a customer for life! and i did get my sleeping bags were from the US of course cheaper, didn't pay for shipping and took 3 days for it to get to the border for pick up. shop canadian, take it in the ass, and pay a #### load of tax, or order from the US pay no tax get a better price and be happy.

x2, I do the same, never use their mail order,Canada anyway. Then again, many don't have that option.
Cabela's in the US has a very large portion of their income through mail order. Perhaps the Canadian one hasn't realized how much they're losing.
SIR started as a mail order business and grew from that. I don't know how the corporate structure is with Cabela's Canada, ie. are they owned/run by Cabela's US or is it Canadian management paying to use the Cabela's name.
