I was wondering about the Cabela's cattleman's carbine.
Its a 1858 Remington revolver action but its got a 18" bbl and rifle type butt stock.
Its in .44 caliber.
I was wondering if anyone here has one and if so what do you think of it?
I would specifically interested in if actual users think it would have enough power to hunt whitetail deer?
In my local WMU's there is no centerfire rifle season but we do have a blackpowder season for deer.
Or can you even hunt with it, I don't think its restricted, but I've been wrong before?
Anyone's thoughts on this would be great.

I was talking with someone about hunting with black powder centerfire guns. They indicated to me that the key factor is that it must load from the muzzle. I would expect that the Ontario MNR has defined what they mean by 'muzzle loader'. It would be good to check it out for sure, however, as a lot of advice on this forum is only opinion or heresay (which I will admit mine is at this point).

Not a "blackpowder" special season but a "muzzleloader" special season for muzzle loaders only. Cap and ball revolver probably won't qualify. I hunt that season south of London every year and think about how good extra shots might be on occasion when two or three deer show up.

But get an 18" barrel length pepperbox with a rifle stock and all will be well.;)

i've been wondering about this type of thing too for manitoba, although i was also thinking along the lines of a paper cartridge sharps, since they can be loaded with either combustible cartridge or loose bullet and powder. i have feeling too it wouldn't work here, which is kinda silly since they have more to do with the origina intentions of the special season then an inline does. not that i'm against inline, i use one myself, but like to dabble with the old ways too.
