hey yall

Merry christmas. I got a new cabelas powderhorn ML scope for x-mas and the BDC is calibrated for 250 gr sabots and 150 grains of 777 powder pellets. I wa wondering if it would make any difference if i used 150 grains of pyrodex. I would imagine it would make a little but would it be substantial.

Thanks for your help

In the end you will have to test it various distance to see if it really does correctly compensate for the bullet drop for your rifle, projectile and charge. You might have an advantage using powder, as you could tailer the load to the scope if necessary.

Spend the time at the range and find out what distances those graduations equate to on your rifle. Those ranges promised by the vendor are under "optimal" conditions, and usually out of a 28" barrel.

The 777 pellets and Pyrodex pellets are supposed to be engineered to give close to the same velocity.

BUT, loose 777 powder however has more energy than pyrodex - about 15% more if I remember right. So 120grs of loose 777 is considered a max charge for magnum rifles.

That's my understanding of things but I recommend checking the powder companies info directly to be sure.

:agree: This is correct.

would not use 3 pellets (150) of tripple 7 , thats a hot load, would use loose 110 grains, or Blackhorn 209 same load.

777 pellets are still 50gr black powder equivalent...same as Pyrodex.
They are smaller in size than pyro pellets.

But ALWAYS read and follow manufactures advice on max loads.
