Cabela's SKS refurb, worth the $199 (sale price)?

Picked up a $199 SKS today from Cabela's. Went through about 12 to 14 guns before I found one I liked. Several had mismatched or poorly mounted stocks, loose barrel cover laminates, or nasty Rust. Would defiantly not order one online from them. I think I plot a nice one though all matching barrel/bolt/stock and force matched magazine. It's reblued not pained. Nice gun to give to my mother lol or be my hunting/trader gun of the future

That pushes my SKS count to 3

Im guessing you did pretty well, having gone through 12 to 14 guns. I've looked at them a couple times at Cabelas and they were the worst SKSs Ive seen.

Just picked up one from Cabelas in Barrie today. Really nice late production one, the only one they had without bbq paint finish. The stock is a bit beat up but it's mostly numbers matching. It's way tighter than me beater 54 that's for sure! Very happy with my purchase. They also had a nice 1950 with spring firing pin and loads of 7.62x39 surplus

Saw a1950 at the barrie store too but the one I saw was very poorly seated in the stock or I would have bought it fir sure.

I will have to look again but I walked away with a 1951 Tula if I remember right. ... having opened it out of the box and destocking it for inspection there are little rust spots but it's all recent probably from the rapid clean and touch up that cables is down on them. I was much happier with my SKS'S from Westrifle. Won't likely be buying an sks from Cabela's again.. the rifle can be touched up no problem just had to worry about cosmoline only on my other rifles.... I prefer cosmoline to cleaner rifles with rust.

Sks isn't the kind of gun I'd be worried about a little surface rust on. It usually disappears. Other than mechanical damage I just pop off the cover, bolt and carrier and look down through the receiver at the hammer spring for rust, and the return spring. I just check the stock for cracks and thats it cause it's easy to bed and refinish a scuffed up stock without sanding the markings off. Cabelas in my town is selling sks for $260 though... for an average Russian refurb. I thought that was a little much. Still worth it but not when other places sell them for $229... or less.

I stripped mine down, re-degreased it and touched up the bluing, and after a degreaser and mineral spirits pass tru oiled the stock up so it's watertight and shiney.
I'd never buy a gun from Cabela's uninspected personally. Half the gun shock or rattled when you picked them up they were so loose fitting or had glaring rust in bad places. Whoever cleaned em must have out them away damp or in a humid area.

199 draws me into their store to look and since basspro does not carry surplus may be one of the last times we see $199

as anyone purchased one of the canadaammo sks, they are on for 199 for this weekend i think.was wondering if anyone purchased one of these.

I got a couple at Calelas in Winnipeg on Thursday. I'm a rookie with these, but I'm learning a few things. The ones i got are 1950, but have laminated stocks. One has a spring loaded firing pin and the other is not.I got one @199, as well as the 1500 ammo for 299. The sign on the pallet says 349 and I had to show them on my phone the sale price. The guy only would show me 1 at a time out of the box from the back. They did give me a 20 off coupon, and i went back and got another SKS the next day after sleeping on it. So 180 for the second one. They had 53 more in the back.
