hey guys,recently I have been working on a "budget" varmint setup for small to midsize varmints and predators,the rifle I have to work with is a H&R sportster in 22 magnum and the scope I have mounted on it currently is a Nikon prostaff fixed four power scope that I bought with the rifle,I quickly realized that a four power was not enough "scope" for the accurate little rifle and started looking for something like a 4-12 scope with an adjustable objective and stumbled across this http://www.cabelas.ca/index.cfm?pageID=71&&section=1195&section2=1376&ID=24388 my question is has anyone owned this riflescope and is of decent quality(I wont be shooting the rifle every day but at least every week) for a "budget" rifle.

Weclome to CGN! I have had a couple of the Cabelas Pine Ridge scopes. The 3-12X40 on my .22lr still works, but the 6-18X40 I had on my .270 lasted less than 150 rds. The one year warranty was over but they took it back for a credit and got I got snowshoes instead.

A friend had a 3-9X40 on his .22lr and it lasted 5 months. Long story short, they're CRAP!

If you're on a budget you should be looking at the Vortex Diamondback or Crossfire scopes. Excellent value, good optics and tracking, and the best warranty on the planet.
 
Thanks for the speedy reply and welcome Zimbu,I looked up the vortex line of scopes and was amazed by there pricing,thanks for the tip,I think I have settled upon the crossfire 4-12x40 AO with the fine crosshairs,any experince with this scope? at only 149.99 it seems to good to be true(at least the 22 magnum is not a heavy recoiling round :D)and any suggestions on where to purchase one?

The Crossfire I have is the 6-24X50 AO MD on my .223. I did a tracking torture test on it first thing and it passed with flying colours. I shoot long range so I'm always dialing up and down, and it hasn't missed a beat in 400rds. If my Vortex Viper PST ever shows up I'll be putting the Crossfire on my .270 in place of the Bushnell Elite 5-15X40.
