Cabelas / Wholesale Sports SKS Quality

I got a all numbers matching 1951 Tula from Canadian Tire on McPhillips and Leila. It is a Ukrainian import so it is blued and not bbqd and it has a black bayonent. Really happy with the quality and the manager let me into the back to pick through the hundreds they had in stock. Highly recommend and will be definitely going back there for my reds.

$200 rifle, cheap to shoot, they're not collector items, does it matter what they look like? Find one with a good action, feed it ammo, smile, repeat. :)

If I was buying an sks online sight unseen I'd be ordering from Corwin arms, end of story. Martin has some of the nicest red rifles around, all the Mosins and sks I've seen him bring to the old Burnaby gun shows were beauts and the new svt I picked up is no different. Lever arms has nice sks's as well but I can hand pick from Lever and that a different story.

Its still pretty amazing that you can get a highly reliable durable non restricted rifle for 200 bucks. Ok accuracy you're in for a 5 to 6 moa rifle but so what, some other 762x39 NR semis are also that accurate and sell for 12times as much.

In some years many will regret the 200$ military semiauto.

westrifle has some of the best quality sks, and he cleans them for you before shipping them out. I got mine from him, and I would most likely buy another from him as well.

+1 on that! Got 2 from Westrifle last year. The SKS at Cabelas and Wholesale in Winnipeg were not as nice when I looked at them. Guess you got to be at the store on the right day.

as long as it works for you , should be happy, specially for a noobish shooter that plans on using the gun, get one that looks nice, feels nice and makes you happy, doesn't mattter if its all numbers matching, chances are its not anyway.... I have a mish mash sks and it looks great, shoots great, i didnt feel bad about stripping and re-finishing old stock and gas tube. Good to go brother just enjoy it :)

it will take a long time before they - the Russian SKS rifles dry up . the price on some has'nt changed in 25 years . I've probley been around guns for longer than you . speculation

So, I've been on holidays this week, and did my rounds, I've been to wholesale sports, cabelas and the Leila Canadian tire. In Winnipeg of course, and as an sks junkie I took a look at what was being offered at each. The ones at CT were the best, so good I fact, I bought a 52 Tula on a whim. Didn't need it, but it was just in that good of shape. Everything at wholesale was bbq paint and the ones at cabelas are just too much compared to the 169 $ at Ct right now (<-super grade, 199 laminant, but like someone else said they have a collection of stocks for like 20 each). If your serious about buying one just head up to Leila CT and look at what they have, you'll find one just as good as if you spend a month trying to find one online, plus you can hold/look at a good pile of them and pick one on your specific ideals. Special tip from me, if she's a real Russian look for a 1, on the front of the front sight post. some say, me included, that is a higher classification of accuracy stamped by its original arsenal. A 2 would still cut the mustard for me but a 3 4 or blank is telling you something about her performance.

I think those numbers are just a parts grouping code. Related to fit and nothing else, but I've been wrong before.

Just to back up my belief's. Even if it is true, there would definitely be further question as to how relevant those 3 shot groups would be 65 years and a couple re-arsenal's later.

does the guy have any sources to back his info up? because my mosin is not a 7.62x 53... also thought the m43 was a 7.62 x 54... website has no bibliography...

they have that all right on the mosin page. It's more than likely a typo. It's only a couple dudes, and for the amount of information they share the bibliography would be ridiculous. Take it for what you want, I find it a great resource. Not all good information is cited. All cited information isn't accurate.

Mine has a mark of the front of the sight post but even with a magnifying glass can't make out a number, looks like a mark from a ding or imperfection more than anything else.

Crappy Tire on Leila also carry lots of Tapco Mags, aftermarket front sights, that includes the tool you will need....Not a bad store for guns, they carry some pretty cool stuff.....

I've purchased a hardwood 1950 from Weimajack on the EE and a 55/56 laminate stock from Marstar and both are superb. Also after reading all the great things about Westrifle on this site I ordered a Mosin from them this week. Point is, I would order from from one of the site sponsors if I wanted to be sure I would receive a nice SKS, especially if they will handpick for you. Now saying that, the ones at Canadian Tire on Leila do look very nice though I haven't bought one. Wholesale sports and especially Cabela's are only for when you are desperate imho.

My sks from wholesale is in immaculate condition, bore is not shot out, wood is clean and not any scratches to be found, and all matching parts! And of course got it during an sks sale for $179.99!
