Cabela's

Well we are a pro-gun and pro-Canadian site here... so I will take this opportunity to wave my "little gun store flag"!
The advent of big box stores is not good for the little gun store... and it is really bad for us as gun buyers. Try and buy a handgun in Bass-pro or Cabellas... or order anything in the way of a specialty firearm!
You may save a couple of bucks buying clothing, ammo and their own name brands at the big box stores... but you are doing yourself a disservice in the long run.
Shop at the local gun store... cuz when they are all gone... you will wish you had.

I vaguely recall Cabalas ships via UPS, which to me is a no deal.
The last shipment I had from Cabelas came US Postal Service. Cabela's uses it's own brokerage system and the fee is $3 which is quite reasonable.

Cabela's service to Canada is quite good IF they will ship the article here. They have increased the "restrictions" well beyond what is legally required and won't ship almost anything involving firearms including cases and slings.

I'm skeptical about the Cabela's outlet when it arrives. I remember the enthusiams about Bass Pro only to discover the reality. Prices not all that much better and service much worse than Le Barons

There is one good thing to be said about Bass Pro. It has a nice toilets. Bass Pro a good place to stop should you need to relieve yourself on the drive up to Epps.;)

I'm with you on this Bigred - to a point, I could not get Cabela's boots or any decent boots from my local gun shop. I spend hundreds of dollars per year between 2 or 3 different gun/outdoors stores that I would call local and Mom and Pops. On the flip side - in exchange for lending some support to my local Mom and Pops gunshops, I walk out of the store feeling like I have been raped at times, average price per box of shells is 25% higher or more, clothing 35+% higher and it truley is hard to take at times. I will continue to support my local guys but not at any price. Hope that made sense. No need to explain the cost of doing business or overhead or price biasing. I do understand the marketplace from both sides of the counter and agree it would be a shame to lose our local shops.

I tried to order a nylon scabbord from them, and they wouldn't ship it because it had two small leather straps on it. I ordered it directly from the manufacturer and they shipped it without a problem.

Well said Open-sights

my local store has three owner/operators/brothers.

one is cool, nice to deal with and one can actually get answers to his questions, creating a nicer and pleasant atmosphere.
the other one would sell you anything , don't matter if you want it or not.
the third one is plain nasty.

If the store would be owned by the first one alone, I'd put up with the prices (which - amazingly are "domesticized" when dealing with him), just to have this place to go and share some thoughts, get some tips and spend some money.

The thought that we're being abused and overtaxed made me shop elswere. Cheaper (but including the trip... not really). I don't expect people to be experts and nice at the same time... but is usually the diletants that are a**holes.

I'd like to have some more stores in our area. Nont many, I'm afraid.
