Cabela's offers a Ruger 10/22 "Sporter" with 22" barrel, birchwood stock and Simmons 2-7x scope.

Saw one perform a while back and it was a tack driver at 20m from a rest.

Anybody shooting one who'd like to offer an opinion? Good trigger or standard?

Alternately -

The Talo version with 20" barrel.

Only real difference between the sporter and carbine is the wood. For my carbine i promptly swap the stock to a magpul hunter, swapped the the hammer with a volquartsen one, installed a nylon buffer, installed the extended mag release, installed the bolt auto release (you can mod your part but I just bought one since it was easier for me). Swapped the charging handle for larger one.

Now I have a decent race gun. I could have kept it stock but what’s the fun in that. 10/22 are the perfect platform to thinker with. Next swap will be the barrel.

Be careful with 10/22, changing parts on them becomes addictive

Beware all sporter are not the same stock wise, I saw a lot of beech and birchwood stock with the sporter name. Nothing wrong with these but I wanted the DELUXE with walnut stock. Had to actually buy the whole thing from a sponsor and now Im happy :)

Oh and yeah all the mods he said make the guns 100x better, I also added a volkwartsen target trigger (flat metal trigger) + the hammer and its very good, better than my bx trigger.

Or you could just buy a Dlask and have a WAY better rifle and support a Canadian company.

Dlask should be double the price plus but by the time you fix the factory model you’ll easily equal if not pass the Dlask price(750$)

Just curious, whats the price difference between the two?

mine was around 800.00 i think. Buy the time you get a ruger to shoot like a dlask you will be around the same price. But resale value will suck on the ruger and dlask come with legal 25 round mags.

I have limited experience with the 10/22 but I won't be buying one any time soon. My buddy has one, which he's spent a bunch of money of "upgrades" and it's still not particularly reliable. IMO they're a great platform to build off of, but they are overpriced for what you get in stock form.

I bought a Marlin 795 recently. $150 for a used one, they're on sale for $200+tax at Cabelas right now. It's lighter than a 10/22, has a last round hold open, and you can get 25rd magazines for it. IMO its a far better rifle for the money.

I had one of the birch wood sporters a few years back when they first came out at cabela's. Just a generic 10/22. Mine was prone to issues and needed warranty work before it was safe to shoot. The trigger was right around 7lbs and gritty. At 20m it should be fine depending on your definition of accuracy, it left a lot for me to desire. Ended up going for a custom build and never looked back.
