Howdy folks
results are staring to roll in now. Still have 2 weeks to get involved and show us how it's done. Details in the Service Rifle forum.

Any chance a hunting bolt gun could actually beat the milsurps?

Good luck!

Nuts! Curse you for posting this here...;)

I LOVED so much your idea in the service rifle forum (but don't have a rifle that qualifies...I'm rocking a single shot is year) I started putting together a very similar challenge for folks with a hunting rig. I filmed the range portion of my challenge today and was going to get the rest of the "requirements" outlined on film this weekend.

I had structured the course-of-fire as follows:

  • Same target (8 inch or 20cm diameter target) to be shot at 100 meters
  • 2 rounds standing unsupported
  • 2 rounds kneeling unsupported
  • 2 rounds sitting supported
  • 2 rounds sitting unsupported
  • 2 rounds prone unsupported
  • total 10 rounds, 1 point each, hit=1 miss=0. Multiply by points by 100, then divide by total time (first shot to last shot) in seconds.
  • any rifle that you would hunt big game with, any optics you might or might not have on your hunting rifle.

Felt above tweeked format was more appropriate for a hunting spirited challenge - but now that you've opened up your challenge to hunting rigs maybe I won't post it for a bit so your challenge can run its course with max participation. Regardless, I'll get my video done and posted sometime soon to proudly show everyone how badly I run my single shot Ruger No.1 in 30-06....:)

Cheers, and thanks for a GREAT idea!

Cheers,

Brobee

For the original challange....who has 4 x 5 round mags for their hunting rifle? Might get a bit boring watching me top load 3 rounds at a time into my Kimber.

Do It! You'd be surprised how fast you can do this. Plan it out, think it through. I see no real difference between service rifle shooting and hunting. I'm thinking that I'll be running this with a CZ550 in 30-06...
