Cabin fever

I try to get out every Sunday morning; I either go to the pistol range or to Stittsville if I can find some buddies to go with me. I shoot primarily revolver this time of year so that I do not have to worry about losing brass.

I usually shoot skeet in the morning and then spending the afternoon smoking paper. The range is always empty so I just spend the time and set up targets at various stations so I can keep shooting while relaxing inside the range shed.

The heat doesn't work at all, but it keeps the wind off, it keeps it warm enough to shoot in a long sleave t-shirt which is nice (with the exception of a 6 pound 300 Win Mag).

It's been -30 here everyday for over a week, but will still get some shooting in, my shed looks out over my 800yd. range, and I'll put a heater out there and let her rip! Sometimes snowmobilers go zipping by(trespassing), oh well, moving targets are good too.

I go to the range all the time in the winter. Not only are there less people there, but much more quiet and able to check/change targets much more frequently. Its great practising with all the winter gear on as well, so its no different than out in the field hunting coyote.

Yep! I couldn't possibly wait until spring. When I return, I keep my rifle in a case and do not open it for several hours to let it return to room temperature. That way, I avoid serious condensation and possible rust on my old rifles.

I try and get out once a week, like lots of guys have mentioned, I enjoy the quiet days at the range when its just me shooting.

Haven't been out in a couple weeks now though, finals have kept me pretty busy. We did manage to get out and call some coyotes in though. Now that finals are done I'm itching to get out to the range again, hopefully sunday.

Always nice to see how various loads perform in colder temperatures too!

Good time to test those possible coyote loads out, shooting them in more realistic environmental conditions than if it were plus 25.

I would shoot more in the winter, but the damn short days keep me at work from dawn till dusk, so weekdays are out, and weekends i'd rather hunt dogs than sit at a bench and punch paper.

Winter is the best. Either I've got the place to myself, or I get a chance to meet someone else dedicated to this hobby. I actually look forward to the end of hunting season; that's the beginning of range season...
