Looking at buying a Cadex Patriot 338 Lapua. Currently shooting to 1400 yds with my 7m Rem Mag but that is where that round seems to fail on me and the plan is to shoot to a mile out in the bush. This where the 338 Lapua comes in.

They haven't been out long and cant seem to get a lot of reviews on their accuracy etc. I have heard nothing but excellent reviews on the quality of their builds but nothing about accuracy and personal reviews. Furlong is out there pumping them so maybe they are excellent?? Anything you got will be helpful.

Currently have a Barrett M99 that is very nice but don't have the gear to reload that size of caliber and my range doesn't allow it either so its going up for sale and Im leaning towards Cadex. The new Stealth from Savage is also supposed to be a shooter but again its new so not much info. Every Savage I have ever owned has been a shooter so do you pay $5K for a Cadex which appears to be a Ferrari or $2K for Savage that is not really as well built (Im assuming) or looks as good, but will likely get the job done? Im a sucker for an AR style platform( albeit a bolt action) unfortunately.

Cadex:
Custom action, bartlein barrel, and great chassis, All made up here except for the barrel blanks.

Savage:
Model 10 action, barrel taken from the barrel bin in their warehouse, Chasis that looks like a mdt lss

In my opinion there is one clear winner and it is not the savage. A lot more work goes into the fit and finish of the cadex then what savage does to their rifles.

Thanks for your input. I know there really isint a comparison, it was the additional cost of the CADEX I was having a problem with. That being said it looks like the CADEX is the answer.

My brother gained .2-.3 MOA going with an aftermart barrel vs factory Rem/Savage. Past 1400 you will need that. If you want to shoot accurately out there figure $10-$12K all in glass, rifle, reloading gear, range finder etc. on the cheapish. Easy to hit $15-$20K with good gear. Do or do not. Savage is a "try".

Whhhoooaa! $15K now that is a lot of coin. Cant spend that much but I did pick up a Gunwerks a couple of years ago for $9K and it will shoot 1/4 MOA so I do see where you are going. I have been all over the map with this decision. I was even back looking at 6.5mm. But I think the CADEX Patriot 338 Lapua will do the trick. I really want to use the Bergers and get that high BC so now I guess I have to wait the 3-4 months waiting period to get it made. You are right with the savage though, they are cheap and every one I have ever owned has been a shooter. Definitely the most accurate rifle for the buck that I have experienced and I have owned quite a few brands.

I'm going to be into my Patriot Lite 338 for around $13,000. So far the rifle has cost me $6700 and change, the Tangent Theta that I ordered was about $5500, I also have a Cadex bipod, and scope mount on order That will be a little over $1000. Add in my reloading gear and I'm near if not over $15,000. It is only easy to burn $15,000 on one of these set ups. I could have went with a cheaper scope like a Sightron SIII. Which is what I have on my TRG 42, but I think a rifle such as the Patriot Lite deserves a better scope.

Add a range finder Thad is useful beyond 1k and wind meter+some ballistic calculator another $3-4K is easy. Neck turning gear, lapua brass, top end projectiles, Hello $20K. Many don't add things up this way because they are in denial. It can be done cheaper, but past 1400M the little things matter.

That ...sounds like a nice rig. Very impressive. I have never even heard of Tangent Theta until you posted it. My budget will max out on a Nightforce. I love the fact that you have such high regards for the Cadex as it gives me confidence on my next purchase.

What groups are you seeing? And if you don't mind me asking what the load recipe is? I want to use the Bergers 300 Hybrid. Is the Cadex magazine limiting you at all for CBTO?

You bet. I got the G7 that will do 2000 yds and will give me a firing solution up to 1400 yds.

I don't have the Cadex yet, I do have the Tangent Theta, before taxes I paid $4600 for it. I was looking at a Nightforce ATACR with a Horus h59 reticle, but the Tangent Theta came up at $300 more so I jumped on it. My Patriot Lite should be here Wednesday. From reading about the rifle I couldn't justify putting a $1500 scope on it.

$5500 just for the scope!!! Excuse my ignorance but this scope is much better than other high-end scopes?

Agreed , 1400 yeards does seem to be the magic number. Im set up pretty nice for around 1400 yards, and im at about 12k for my kit. To really be effective after that ... everything is more money

Yup Just $5500 taxes, shipping and, insurance included. I purchased a cleaning kit as well for that price, it was something like $30. The scope was $4600 before tax/shipping and insurance. A Nightforce ATACR F1 with H59 reticle would have been $4300 before taxes. $4600 before tax is not out of line for a scope in this category. A Nightforce BEAST is almost $5700 before taxes. The normal price for the Tangent Theta is $6153 before tax but I got lucky, I would never have paid that for it, the scope would have been over $7000 after taxes/shipping

If you are looking for even more precision, go for a custom built rifle. Insite Arms will build you an absolute hammer, and with a custom rifle, you get it built EXACTLY the way you want.

I would also skip the .338 Lapua and get a rifle chambered in .300 Norma Mag.
