TL;DR- Mount didn't fit optic as advertised, drilled and tapped for the first time to make it fit; was successful.
While I think Cadex has discontinued the product, they made a no-gunsmithing Sig P226 mount that replaces your rear sight and mounts most common micro-dot bases (Trijicon RMR, Burris FastFire, etc) and also advertised as being compatible with the Vortex Venom.
Believing that it was compatible with the Venom, I ordered a mount on eBay and drove over to SFRC to buy the Venom over the weekend. The mount arrived yesterday, and I realized during the instillation process that the screws provided with the Venom were too big for it.
A quick trip to Cambodian Tire was in order in the desperate hope that I'd be able to find an appropriate screw that would fit the mount. Naturally I couldn't, but by testing the provided Vortex screws in the test plate they have there, I learned the screw was a 6-32...which got me thinking. Some Googling led me to believing I could tap and screw a new hole on the Cadex mount with a 7/64" bit and a 6-32 tap, so I bought them.
I mused over actually getting in touch with Vortex and asking them to send up different screws. Being impatient, immediately and permanently modifying the mount was a preferable solution. This was the first time I drilled and tapped anything (haha) so I went slow, and it looked good when done. The moment of truth- would the screws fit the new threads? They did! A dab of Loctite on each, and my Venom was mounted snugly on my P226.
I'm taking it to the range on Saturday to see how it holds up and how it shoots. I'll report back when I do.
Thanks for reading, hope this is helpful if somebody buys the mount and encounters the same problem.
Here's a quick pic of the pistol with the mount in my meat paws.
