Considering a paint job on one of my rifle stocks, anyone do a CADPAT pattern? Photos and suggestions greatly appreciated. been searching the web without too much luck.

This is my 1st digital paint job.

I got my supplies from Barret Arms, also got lots of info from Barret. (Murdoc)

Great guy to deal with.

I have a rem synthetic short action that I picked up pretty cheap on ebay, a good one to start on, think I'll get rid of the checkering and widen the forend with some fibreglass. Looks like it'll be another coyote gun.

There was a link posted in one of the stock finishing threads, IIRC, awhile back. It allowed you to generate and download patterns that you could cut out yourself. Anyone else remember where it is?

Some really nice photos on that website, Those stencils are a little pricey, probably have to make my own.

Make you own.Thats what I did.

Allthough it is time consuming.

I used overhead projector film and traced the patterns from actual CADPAT.The film can be cleaned with laquer thinner and be re-used MANY times.

Sounds like you want the TW (Temperate) Cadpat.

This is the Late Ron March's rifle that I did for him just before he passed away.

Really nice work Skullboy, a lot of talent there. Just couldn't pass those pics without saying something.

The reason the stencils cost so much is that they are reusable and can withstand temperatures exceeding 400F, which works well when baking, that way there is no shrinkage when applying the layers.

Understood, I just don't want to blow too much cash at the moment, it's more of an experiment than anything, who knows if it comes out good maybe I'll get the proper stencils.

Yep, Thats the stuff, thats the cadpat that I wear. Those pics are awesome! Guess I'll have to get some projector film and give it a try.

Isn't the flim kinda thick? How do you smooth out the layers? Also curious what brand of paint and what colors for the temperate cadpat?

With workmanship like that, I would ask Skullboy if he would do the job for you. That is fantastic looking SB. By the way, no chance that B&L Tactical is for sale is there?
