From what I've read, the US was very gun ho for this new caliber, but notice the date on the memo.... 1927.... before the great depression. With all the cut backs in the 30's, the US Army decided to stay with the 30-06, mainly due to the large stock of that ammo they still had, and the lack of funds for anything new....

This is the kind of data that the books are made up from. Ordnance files that read like a murder mystery. The deals and Orders are something I am trying to get out there. This stuff has not been seen before. Here's is the rest of the memo.
