Cal speculation ?? Belgian Cape Gun

I know !!! My measurements are somewhat suspect . Amateur job w the tools available to me . Basement wax chamber cast Blah blah . Case appears rimmed and fairly straight taper although a slight shoulder before the neck . OAL could be way out as I might have cast some of the bore . Any speculation as to cartridge info would be appreciated . A 38/55 falls into the chamber and the 38/55 bullet at the muzzle is sloppy in spite of my vernier .35-.36 reading . Still pouring through my Cartridges of the world book lol but thought I would try here as well . She is an H. Pieper rifle /12 . Pat date April 1881 Belgium .

9.3x74mmR, a medium-bore cartridge once popular in Europe. The cartridge was a very popular chambering for double rifles both in side-by-side and over-and-under barrel configurations.

360 NE would be my bet.
Had one... fits a 38-55 quite handily.
Does it have 4 really wide, deep rifling grooves... a bullet almost won't roll after shooting and recovering it?
Still have a couple pieces of resized 30-40 Krag brass for it actually

.360 Nitro Express has a very pronounced shoulder -

9.3x74mmR has like the OP's chamber cast a very slight case shoulder -

I think maybe 9.3x72R is what you need NOT 9.3x74R.
I repeat!! NOT 9.3x74R

As I said the “ chamber cast “ was very crude to say the least . I have no intentions of shooting it and if it’s passed along a very specific “ Ck it out yourself “ will accompany the description and warning ! Appreciate the input ! Above where I said a 38/55 “ falls “ into the chamber . I meant it literally it disappears . Obviously smaller than chamber . Thx

Then it's likely not a 360 for sure, when I bought mine it was actually registered as a 38-55...very similar. If the 38-55 dissappears, you are likely a luckier person for it... 9.3 x 72R is likely a much more common caliber.

It may actually be .38x55 after all if it is one of their North America market combination guns sold by Sears, I found this picture from a old Sears mail order catalogue, they sold a fair number in North America and also made them for the European market in European cartridges -
