Have a 7.62mm bolt I would like to fit into my 2007 norinco. The bolt is alittle too snug. Wondering if there is an experienced fellow CGNer that can show me the process or a gunsmith in calgary with experience with m14-type rifles.

Cheers

Use the search function - there's a tutorial posted on the forum here somehwere. I know because I wrote it - lol.

x2

even if you don't do the work yourself, the bolt lapping tutorial thread is a good read and will help you understand what is involved and the correct tools to have on hand.
bolt lapping is fairly straight forward if you are a handy do it yerselfer and have a good understanding of what is being done..

Found it, thanks Claven. Now, looks like i will need a few assorted tools to get started. Must you have the bolt disassembled to do this? Also where can i find GO and NO GO gauges?

Cheers

bolt must be disassembled
decide which headspace measurement you want

CLYMER 1.634" .308 no go guage, it is perfect for those wanting a match nato chamber and still use .308 commercial ammo safely. so only need to buy one headspace guage. or get the 7.62 nato go guage (1.635") but it is not recommended to lap a new bolt into a receiver to nato headspace unless installing a short chambered barrel.

the other route is a match .308 chamber which is the recommended option as less material will need to be lapped..... in other words.... lapping to .308 removes less hardeness layer than going to a nato chamber. In many cases it is just not safe to continue lapping much past 1.631" or 1.632" when installing most usgi or tight fitting aftermarket bolt. In this case, again one guage to buy, the CLYMER .308 go and these go for about 35.00 at Brownells.
