Well this was a interesting weekend at the Calgary AHEIA firearms center.
Saturday was fantastic. Instead of shooting I voluntered to help out with a Birthday party for a group of approx 20 people.
What a rewarding experiance. It's a fantastic feeling to help someone hit there first clay or handel a gun for the first time. One fellow had NEVER EVER picked up a gun before. After one practice round he managed a 19/25 and a 20/25. One excited DUDE. I remeber his last comment he made before he started hitting them was "I dont see how anyone can hit these stupid things!"
We made some minor adjustments and he was off to the races!!(He missed the first 10 or so in practice)
On a bad side note, I got sunburnt so friken badly I wanted to cry. Man.. When will I learn!!
On a great note, it looked like the gentleman who owns a western wear chain had such a great time he was back on Sunday and bought a membership. I enjoyed my time with him.. Good fellow
Sunday I also voluntered to help with the shoot. Let me tell you, I will NEVER NEVER get upset at a scorer again. Thats a tough job. For the most part we have teenage kids helping us out. The Sunburn had me crying all day.
I did manage to sneak in to the singles portion of the tournament. I did fairly well considering I have only shot less than 200 rounds since last fall.
I managed to win my division and ended up with a nice B.Brown print (Framed)
Its nice to be out with all those guys again. But I do want to spend more time helping this year.. Like I said, very rewarding.
The offer is allways open to anyone who wants to come shooting at the club. Just get in touch and we can head out. Even if you have never done it before, all equipment can be supplied.
