Caliber advice

Is 30 minutes not enough time to get in your stand?

I usually get to my stand about 30 min before legal shooting time. That means I'm 30 min sitting until I can load my gun. I don't want to be top loading 4 cartridges into my rifle while I'm on my stand because of the noise. That's one advantage that I cited for the detachable magazine. One click and you're loaded.

M1 Garand? Now there is something I have never seen mentioned in an all around hunting rifle discussion. The Garand was a fine combat rifle but is pushing 10 pounds loaded and has all the balance of a piece of 2 inch schedule 80 pipe. Plus after a barrage of wildly inaccurate fire due to the fact you are exhausted from carrying the thing the game will know you are empty when they hear that metallic "ping" of the clip being ejected.

Quantity, not quality. Ha.

I'm sure the plan will work out one way or the other, maybe down the road the plan can change again.

16" plate at 300 yards is do-able so long as the hands are steady and the magazine is full.

The old pipe will knock them down so long as the game is close, not hard to close the gap on Ontario Moose at 70 to 140 yards.

Bang,,,,,,,,, bang, bang, bang as the chips fall where they may. LOL

^^^ I had one once, and, already possessing the rifle, I decided to take it hunting. As already mentioned, it was a heavy little cuss, the sights were hard to see in dim light, and it was noisy to load and unload. I never did kill anything with it, and traded it off a while later, one of the dumber trades I've made. There was no real advantage to hunting with the M1 over a more modern rifle, I just wanted to put it to work.

being the guy, that lugs around a full mil stock SMLE NR1MkIII, come deer season,at least one day of the season, i understand the OP, i would never recommend anyone done the same, but i do love my SMLE, when you out in woods with the love of your life little things, like extra 2-3lb don’t matter at all

I think one day is different from 1 rifle only.
