A reliable semi auto shotgun with plug removed and loaded to the nuts with alternating slugs and buckshot. :twisted:

I think a gatling loaded in the same manner would prove a little more reassuring and you wont have to bother reloading

this year I have parked the bigbores , my fall bear hunt will be done with a 25-06 and a 300wm , the 25 is up first with a 117Gr speer hot-cor sp bullet at the moment , subject to change once I get some Barnes X's :twisted:

I watched a 12yr old girl drop a 5'6 blacky with a 243 this spring at camp.

if you can shoot, a .243 is plenty for the average black bear.

then you have the other endo fo the scale, where a hunter shows up with a .338 mag and can't shoot it.

pack what you can shoot, for the most part, bears have a glass jaw.

I am thinking of hunting bear, I have a few rifles to use, 308, 30-06 or a 45-70. I am thinking of a 165 partition in the 30cals. As for the 45-70 would a 300gr Hp or a 400 sp? The 45-70 is a ruger #1 so they will not be light loads.

In the 45/70 modern pressure gun the 300's by any company are NO GOOD. They are meant to operate at trapdoor velocities...They work perfectly in my 1885 45/60, but in the modern 45/70 you'll be very pleased with hornady 350 FN. You should have no prob shovin them outta that gun at 2150+ which you will find quite capable out to 150. Past 150 I step up to the 458 mag,and after that,If you need a lot,then you naturally pick up a lott

I took a blackie at 30 yards this year with a 100BT in a 25-06 but would normally like somthing a little bigger that close but he ran 70 yards with a neck shot.
