Caliber conversion?

I've inherited a Sako 75 in 6ppc. I don't reload and the BR calibre doesn't interest me. Could the barrel be rechambered to .243 and the bolt face modified to .473? I know the market for the rifle wouldn't be that great as it is a rarer cartridge dedicated to the BR crowd.

Words of wisdom and some regular CGN sarcasm appreciated!

243 would probably be too long, if the action length matches the cartridge it's chambered in.
Easiest caliber conversions would bases on action length and bolt face would be.

22 ARC
224 Valkyrie
6.5 Grendel
6.8 SPC
7.62x39

And of course a long list of Wildcats or non standardized cartridges. I am not sure on the action length of that Sako. If it is just a regular length short action. Then it does open up quite a range of cartridges available.
 
Thanks all for the words of wisdom. I think that the barrel twist is the killer. Its 1/12. I'll just have to take the hit of the difficulty of selling the oddball calibre. I saw the same rifle up a while ago. There was zero interest which was why I was trying to modify the factory gun.
 
6ppc is the greatest cartridge ever made! Sako is the greatest rifle ever made. You have the world’s greatest combined and you’re going to mess with that! Only a fool would want what personally interests them and doesn’t make sense to me. My Brothers buddies uncles step son had one and shot a grizzly with it in self defence while target shooting. Dropped it dead in his tracks! When the game warden showed up to pick up the carcass he said it was the most accurately shot dead bear he had ever seen!!!!

On a serious note, I’m sure it wouldn’t have the highest interest but someone would want it I would think.

It’s not a laminate stainless by chance is it?
 
I remember when those came out, it was considered one of the most accurate factory rifles ever made. Magazine articles at the time were filled with wonder and praise. Doubs about the PPC making the transition from custom benchrest to production varminter were put to rest.
I’d find someone who wants it; and cut up something else.
Hmmmm…………I think I just got baited by a master😂 got any extra sinkers I can swallow?

what indicates zero interest?
even though the cartridge is capable of shooting 1-hole out to 3-400 which can become as boring as watching bark curl, I'd be interested

Sell it and buy a 243 etc. The Sako is worth more as it is. - dan
 
I'l just throw it out there.

Fired 60 rounds of factory 6ppc sako amunition using a austrian alpine single shot rifle and had a garmin ballistic radar setup for fun.

ES was 7, which is better than most handloads will ever be.

I do not think I have anything else to say ;)

keep it or sell it and buy something you really want with the money. Don't modify it, you will lose out.
 
Zero interest was the rifle was up for sale for a few months and wouldn't sell. I thought that the price asked was reasonable and I watched it drop a few times. The guy ended up pulling the add. And yes, its a laminate stainless.
 
I've listed items here with others listing similar or same that had been sitting for a while. Mine sold at the same time others the same sat. I can't explain why that is, but the only option is to list at a reasonable price and see what happens. It's free to list remember, and you can always offer to trade for what you'd like.
Unless you can do the work yourself It's not worth the expense of all that.

It will sell at the right price in an ad with lots of good pics and a detailed description. Where was it advertised for sale?

What was it priced at?
 
I am with you there on how the 1-12 twist would have problems with people interested in it. Since everyone wants the long sleek bullets nowadays.

Probably limited to not much over 80 grains?? Amazing gun for what it's intended for.

What where you more leaning towards to have it chambered in?
