i am tring to decide between a 7mm-08 and a 25-06 the gun will be used by myself for hunting deer and some moose. also it will be the gun that i start my 2 girls shooting and hunting with looking for pros and cons to help me make a good choice.
 
If your plans are deer and moose, I'd choose the 7mm-08 over the 25-06 for the availability of heavier bullets.
25-06 is on the small side for moose, especially for new hunters. Have you considered the boring old 308? 180 gr. for moose, 150 or 165 gr. for deer, and you can get low recoil loads for your daughters if you don't reload. My thoughts anyhow.
 
Bearkilr pretty much said it all.

You can load the 7-08 to have similar performance of .308 with less recoil.You can load some very impressive light kicking loads in the 7-08.You can go a flat shooting 120grain for light game or 140-168 for larger stuff.140 does seem to be the weight that the factory rifles like the most.

I have all three mentioned in this thread and I wouldn't think twice about my 7-08 over the other two!
 
As much as I love the 2506 if moose is on the menu I'd go 708 for use of heavier bullets. Not saaying the 25 can't do it I just prefer heavier bullets for heavier game. The 708 is capable of alot
 
Recoil of the 25-06 is very light, & using premium no lead bullets It will kill moose. This was my go to rifle for years. Now the negatives, it is very loud to all around. For new shooters noise is as bad as recoil. It is easier to find a youth / compact in 7-08 than the 25. Fit the gun to the kids & see what they hold better. Any of the medium cal. will work, 25 7x57 7-08 260 or 308. Good luck. Aj.

It will kill with lead bullets just as well and why would it be noisier? :confused:
 
There are others I would like better but of those two, assuming there is no other significant difference in the rifles, I'd prefer the 7mm-08 for, as others have said, its heavier bullet options.
