This is probably a very common question but im gunna ask it anyways as I cant find one that pertains to the information I desire.
Im looking at starting a precision rifle build. It will be for target shooting only.
I was thinking of getting a rem 700 sps tactical, in either a 308 or 243. Open to other suggestions. I plan on trying to shoot a lot and don't want to burn out my hunting rifle which is why I am looking for a target rifle.

Thanks for any Reponses

6.5 x 55 700 sps long action swap out barrel for 264 and bam target long range hunter no barrel burn out .

All said is true, barrel life is excellent, should serve your purpose well and also there is a ridiculous wealth of knowledge with this caliber out there, more specifically for reloading. Kind of a limitless cartridge especially for someone with 0-midrange experience. There always seems to be a .308 sitting somewhere on or near the podium as well when it comes to any type of competition, so I think it speaks for itself.

For target shooting only... small projectile, light recoil, doesn't burn much powder, cost of shooting is very low, long barrel life ... 1000 yard accuracy level extremely high... 6mm BR with an 8 twist barrel and 107 grain bullets and Lapua brass.
