Caliber VS Rifle

I love all my rifles in all calibers....except maybe wish my Mosin-Nagant was a303 instead of 7.62x54R. I'd have ammo galore instead of trying to find this rarer ammo and paying high prices that go with it.

I don't get it, why is this caliber(7.62x54R) so rare, yet there are tons of these rifles out there?

You mean rarity of hunting ammo, right? Because you can get full-powered FMJ for plinking or varmiting by the thousands at the cost of a few dimes per round.

I once had a ruger no 1 in 25-06. Liked the rifle but not the cartridge. I rebarelled to 280 and liked it but eventually it was traded for something else I liked more.

I picked up a beautiful mauser conversion at an auction several years back. It had a lovely stock on it and the barrel and action were nicely finnished. It was chambered in 22/250 which was just the thing I was looking for to put holes in coyotes.

However it was a long action piece with a long action magazine. Those little 22/250 shells just about got lost in the mag. and slipped around in it. They were a trick to feed up into the action. And the thing shot "fair" but was really no tack driver. If that rifle had been in .308 or 7mm-08 or 30/06 and shot as it did I may well have kept it. But "handsome is as handsome does" as they say and so I took it back to the same auction and sold it.
