Adrian, I'm in BC but I was able to Google fu your provincial hunting regs. It was a task 
Looks like no rimfire
Also shotgun reg, no smaller than 20ga when loaded with shot, or any shotgun loaded with shot less than no 1 buck
Cruised the notes, plenty about arrows and shot, nothing about caliber.
You should read your regs, it's a good read.

No rimfire, so you could hunt them with a rifle chambered in 25 ACP legally if you wanted to.
410 slug would be legal too as you cannot use a shotgun smaller than 20ga when loaded with shot but there is no restriction on gauge for slugs.

Your 243 will be fine. Use 90/100 gr. hunting bullets, not varmint bullets.
