Calipers,,Digital or Mechanical

I paid $34 at Home Depot for that exact one that they sell at CT. I guess I should have checked there first. I did get a 4" vise at CT for 1/2 price last week.

I got mechanical calipers in a 'package' I ordered from Dillon Presision. I just got them out and checked them and they read everything 0.001" greater than my digital calipers. :onCrack:

I've recently picked up the RCBS dial caliper from WSS. It's my first caliper and I find it easy to use. The only problem with it was the "made in China" label I found when I opened it.

Mitutoyo is terrific. I like that I can convert form Imperial to metric with the press of a button. I often helps quickly identify whether you have a metric or Imperial part.

I tried the CT calipers and found that battery life was pathetic but they worked ok with a fresh battery.

A vernier caliper never lets you down. I still have and use a 36 year old Craftsman vernier caliper. My near vision is still good.

A dial caliper is a good compromise between low tech and easy to read but I've seen a lot with smashed dial lenses.

I have a Mitutoyo Digital caliper, and have had it for a number of years. It has never let me down, and has been as accurate as a caliper is expected to be. [This one reads to .0005" or .01mm] I do not use it where I need absolute precision. For those chores, I use a conventional vernier micrometer.[Also Mitutoyo] I have no need to read to any value smaller than .0001". Regards, Eagleye.
