as others have said, it's not a bubba job. It's removable, thus it is properly called a temporary cosmetic (in this case) alteration.

a bubba job is, for example and not limited to, could be having one spot weld the front sight to the barrel after it falls off rather than fix it properly.

a mig welder is a tool bubba should never ever touch.

I agree totally, ones taste is ones taste but I got a sense that I was committing a sacrilegious act by swapping hand guards. I guess it was this that I was asking your opinion.
