So my son and myself walked out of a cut yesterday onto a logging road to walk back to the truck . This guy was about 200 yards out , walking away , between us and the truck .
I told my son to watch quietly as i attempted to call the bear back and maybe up the hill where we were . I started doing my best moose calf bleat , and he turned . The wind was blowing from him to us so no way he could pick up scent .
He not only made it up the first hill but as we retreated he kept coming up the small second hill and around the corner . I kept bleating .
He stopped for a moment but the though of a tasty calf over rode his better judgement .
At 15 yards i stopped calf bleating , but he kept coming .
I heard the safety click on the 870 as my son figured , this is far enough , and the bear bolted . About 300 pounds and very healthy looking .
