I purchased this gun a few days ago (my first handgun, as if that wasn't obvious), and while I'm waiting for the ATT to be able to fire it at the range, I've decided to get to know it better by taking it apart (not the whole thing, just the slide, firing pin assembly and barrel).

My problem is that I haven't been able to remove the firing pin housing assembly from the slide itself.

It seems like it should be easy enough, as the manual simply says "remove the firing pin housing assembly and set aside for cleaning", but I haven't been able to do it, and I don't want to yank at it too hard either... Can any Buckmark owner give me some tips as to how I should go about this?

Thanks!

I'll second what Mr.AR15 said.
My wife was in the same boat with her Browning.
Once we got it apart a couple of times it became fairly easy

Thank you both, I'll be able to extract it with more confidence now that I know there's nothing particularly tricky about it. I was looking at that springed hook-lever protruding on the side and wondering if that had anything to do with anything, but apparently not... Thanks again!

I was finally able to do this, after a lot of cursing. I was unable to get a good grip on the sides of the assembly with any type of instrument... I finally managed to nudge it out using the recoil rod as a lever or sorts.

Browning definitely needs to change their manual though, 'cause this, pictured below (pulling out the assembly completely by one side) is downright impossible:

How does look the factory shock buffer in your gun? I replace mine in my Buckmark when it start to look punched. They are two types of buffers available at Brownells. One pre 1999 and one post 1999.

Yes, this important plastic part prevent the slide from battering on the frame. It sometimes need to be replaced by a new one.

Whoa, blast from the past. One of my very first posts, about my very first gun.

What happened to you in 21 months Cerdan, what have you become?!? I DON'T EVEN RECOGNIZE ME ANY MORE!!!

Haha, I'm well on my way down the same path as you post wise. Got a buckmark and love it, disassembly is a bit of a pain, but doesn't need to be done often. I see you're in eastern Ont, pm me if you ever shoot at Stittsville.

Cheers
