Just curious how many fellow gunnuters own an 8 mag or 350 mag? I'm fortunate enough to have a Remington Classic in both calibres and absolutely love them. I don't see too many threads on these 2 calibres so thought I'd call out those who own either and get their experiences, opinions, pet loads and hunting stories. Thanks.

I have an 8 mag, picked it up from a fellow gunnut on the EE. It was a bdl but I put it into a mcmillan swirly hunter stock. I use 220gr sierras in it. I should take the old girl out of the safe for a change, havn't played with it in a while. I think its a great cartridge and its a good shooting rig!

My first powerful rifle was a .350 magnum, and I came away from the experience with some opinions that I still hold. The first is that the bedding of a powerful rifle must be done properly if the stock is going to stand up, my .350's stock, it was an early M-700, split well up into the checkering of the forend to the front and clear through the pistol grip behind the tang.

I learned that sometimes gunsmiths have a long turnaround time, and the one I chose went bankrupt before I got the rifle back. Those Manitoba Gunnutz whose memory extends back to the early '70s might recall who that was. I got the rifle back after what seemed to be an eternity and until it was in my hands I wasn't sure it ever would be or that I would be compensated.

I learned that despite the opinion pieces that were written at the time, the .350 was capable of very good accuracy.

I learned that cartridges larger than .30 caliber did better with longer rather than short fat cases, and long and fat is better yet. Thus a .35 Whelen can be loaded with heavier bullets without having to deal with compressed loads that plague the .350 magnum, and a .35 Ultra would make a very cool, easy to load wildcat.

Just curious as to what powder you are using with the Sierras?

There are several wildcats based (some loosley) off of the 8 mm mag. I have a .358 STA that would totally agree with your logic as well as a .338 jarrett, I use 8 mag brass for both. However a .35 ultra would trump the STA, I would be more inclined to go .35 lapua to take advantage of the excellent brass available.

Does the 8x68 count? I have 2 of those and I think they are just a wonderful round.

I also think thats a great round, basically an 8 mag with no belt. I keep my eyes open for a good deal on one. What I notice about the euro rifles is that they have slow twist's and you need to shoot lighter bullets, I like to shoot heavy for caliber bullets and that dosent work well. I sold a 6.5x68 because it would only shoot 100-120gr bullets and my stubby fingers won't reach the front trigger on the double set trigger. Also the RWS brass is pricey and hard to find sometimes.

I have both also, The 8 mag is my #1 open country deer rifle. 180gr triple shock at 3350 and primers look good. Reloader 22...too much to print. Great flat shooting load, I am suprised there is not more of them out there.

8mm Rem Mag owner here. 700 BDL in a McMillan Classic stock. Leupold Vx3 3.5-10x40 Boone & Crockett in Talley quick detach rings. Pounded a nice blackie and a 6x6 bull elk with it in 2009. Love it

I think it might be too much of a good thing for most folks! Plus the 8mm seems to be a bit of an oddball in North America - consider the 8x57, 8x60S and 8x68S. They are all good but there are plenty of .308" offerings out there that will do the job, not to mention the .338 Win Mag.

What about the new 8 mag? The .325 wsm.

here's the two best pics I could find of my 8mm Mag :D
