Calling all oberndorf mauser experts

Hello,

I just purchased a mauser in a mannlicher stock on an impulse buy. I was wondering if anyone can provide me with some info on the rifle and the prospective value (so I know how much I overpaid). The rifle is chambered in 9x57, is full stock and has double set-triggers. The action to me (not being a mauser expert) appears to be of the commercial type (no war-birds) but is round below the scope bases (I understand some are flat). Rifle has a swing out floor-plate that is lever operated (lever on floor-plate). Condition is very good with some minor marks on the wood, a small chip between the receiver and the barrel mounting surface and what appears to be filler below the front scope mount (visible in picture). Bore is bright. Barrel is approx 18" long. Safety is the original bolt-mounted flag type and does not clear scope. Action reads "Made in Germany" and "Mauser Werke Oberndorf". Based on the caliber and the action reading "Germany" vs "West Germany", my uneducated guess would be that the rifle must have been produced in the late 40s or early 50s. It is topped off with a 2.5x scope which reads "Kollenberg, Massachusetts"??. On the bolt side of the action are two filler screws that appear to have retained an aperture sight at some point in the past. I can't find any other spot where a rear sight would have been mounted anywhere else on the rifle. Rifle is drilled and tapped, of course, although I have no idea if this would have been done at the factory. All of this is from memory, as I don't have the rifle in my hands yet. Sorry about the crappy pictures - it is all I have for now.
Any info from all of you much wiser in the way of mausers than me would be very appreciated.

I would think that "Made in Germany" (vs. "West Germany") suggests commercial production from the inter-war period. Just a guess, of course...

(Someone's bound to know for sure.)

Sure is clean, good for you! I would think it is a later build from the war time Mausers I have seen they had oiled stocks and claw mounts moreso than the set up that one wears.

The DST shape on the other hand does look like the byf's I have seen from prewar. It could be restocked and the scope etc added later. Either way it is very nice.

I saw dies at Trade Ex today in case you need some. The link to their site is at the top of this page.

As to price, consider what it would cost to get the gun made $600 for the stock if not $800 by the time it is finished and checkered, then there is the DST for maybe $200 to buy and then have fit. Barrel $500 ........ you get the idea. Don't worry about the cost so much as much as the fact that you are happy with it. That's what I keep telling myself anyway.

I made a Mauser impulse buy today too but it does not look near as clean as yours. I can't wait to get it.
