Well was supposed to try archery for moose this year, but our group didnt draw a tag this year. But one fellow bought a surplus cow tag. Now the tables have turned and we "may" go afterall, not sure yet. Is it possible to call cows, or is it really a next to zero chance? At least I have been told by a couple fellows that its a crap shoot to get a cow to come in. Is it even worth the 12 hour drive north or not?? Thanx!

Maawwww, Maaaaawwww and then get a can of water and pour it slowly in the water just like when a bull is pi$$ing) in the lake. A low, draen out lonely call, I need to get laid kinda thing. videos help. Cow can be drawn in 4 sure. :) Spell check someboy?

Not practical to try and call a cow. However, if you have a tag, I would say to go for it. Just hunt the area where you see sign, especially morning and evenings.

I have called in cows that came in hoping maybe a bull was around. I've had 'em come in when I was cow calling and also when I was making bull and cow calls.

I don't know if you'll have any success but you will not shoot a cow sitting on your couch is what I do know.

Just an idea - I've never tried it, but I have seen guys call in does by using a fawn distress. I wonder if the same thing would work on cows?

fawn in distress brings every animal within earshot running- bull, cow, deer, predators- you name it- they're all looking to either help or an easy meal- same deal with a wounded rabbit, and a crow call if worked properly-i've done it off-season and had things come crashing through thick brush looking for the sound

Since 1979 during the archery season in WMU29 we have shot 2 cows following bulls ( before tags )and the most that followed a bull to the call was 3 cows at one time. Two years ago we called in a spoon with a cow ( no tag ) During the gun season I called in a cow and calf and the calf almost ran into me. So like said before you can couch hunt or gain experience for when you get a bull tag..

Just go hunting for bulls. They are rarely alone. The big ones even have their following in the RUT. That is what I would do.

My technique is to alternate between bull grunt and cow sounds.

Like hunter 67 says rivers and lakes are a good bet being that the cows and calves can elude predaters. Also another thing I've discovered over the years is cows can be VERY jealous and possesive of a bull so try working your calls to that advantage....Good luck!
