Calling Moose in Alberta

In BC, for sure I would try calling on labour day weekend. I had a medium sized bull come in once on Sept. 1, from an accidental call!

No such thing as "too early"... they will either come in or ignore you... your calling won't bother them... even if you suck at it. Here's a tip... real moose suck at calling... when you here a real cow in the bush, it will not sound like any of the instruction tapes or videos you have heard or watched.

First week of Oct in central AB ...perhaps a little earlier in the north and west foothill areas......timing is everything...........Harold

You can call moose in all year. They'll come in out of curiosity mostly. They don't come running in like they do during the rut to breed but if they feel like it, they will come in.
If it's hot out, they won't get up for nothing during the day. Your best bet is to be in your spot and start calling and hour before sun up and hopefully get one in and hold him in the area untill legal shooting light.
Also, the rut is governed by hours of daylight...has nothing to do with temperature but some heavy frost sure helps to get them perked up and out running around.

I think it's long distance from outside the province.

But seriously folks...

The rut occurring the last week of September to mid-October is pretty well standard across the country isn't it?

Half-hour later in Newfoundland.
