It's a French WW2 Model 1931 Gas Mask Carrier according to "Field Equipment of the Infantry 1914-1945" by Robert Fisch.
Markings on your pics are identical to the book. Value during publishing of the book in 1990 about $40 including the mask.... Add 24 years worth for just the carrier, your guess.
