Not sure the best spot to put this. But looking for an amateur video camera suitable to film some of our hunts. Hoping this year to film a lot more. Up to this point have just been using the same digital camera I have had for 10 years. Its fine, but battery life on film is horrible, so I'm looking to upgrade. Any recommendations for a decent camera/camcorder, that wont break the bank? Thanks !

What is your budget?

I am looking at getting a Tactacam 5.0 for this years deer hunt. Many mounting options. See thru scope, picatinny rail, tripod or headband mount. Cabelas and Ellwood Epps has them.

Budget is definitely necessary for advice.

Do you want to mount it on a gun or headband?

Video quality will be best on an interchangeable lens camera. DSLRs are becoming obsolete, mirrorless is the new thing. These cameras are too large to mount on a gun or headband though.

I bought 2 Panasonic Lumix DC-TS7 cameras. They are pretty decent, waterproof, take nice pics and video.
I filmed the Sockeye Salmon run on the Adams River, BC and got some very cool underwater video using them.

I also self-filmed rattling in Whitetail bucks in November, and seeing the bucks coming in by my stand (no shooters though)...

The one drawback to them, when self filming is the zoom isn't great to use, and if you shut the camera off (like to save battery), when you turn it back on, the previous zoom setting is lost, so gotta re-adjust that.
But that's the only knock I have on them.

Sorry guys, looking for hand held options. Going to be filming another guy hunting, not self filming. Not looking to break the bank, keep it under 1000$ likely. Thanks.
